The monastery of Santa María de Montserrat (in Catalan , Monestir de Santa Maria de Montserrat ) is a Benedictine abbey located in the mountain of Montserrat , belonging to the region of Bages , province of Barcelona , at a height of 720 meters above the level of the sea. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Monistrol de Montserrat , although some of its adjoining land enters the Collbató term . It is a symbol for Catalonia and has become a pilgrimage point for believers and a must for tourists.
