Hesse
Hesse is a state located in central Germany, known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. Frankfurt is one of the few European cities with a large cluster of high rise building in its downtown area; in many other European cities, skyscraper construction was not well received in the past due to the historical value of existing buildings. For this reason, Frankfurt is sometimes referred to as "Mainhattan" (a portmanteau of the local Main river and Manhattan).

With the opening of borders we ventured abroad. This is about a 4 hour drive from my home, and I found the beautiful Romanesque cathedral of Limburg an der Lahn bathed in warm sunset light under a colourful sky.
Even on a stormy and rainy day this town doesn't lose its fairytale charm.

At last here's a photo from Germany again. I have still some seascapes from Portugal but I thought I need to get out soon to take some other photos so you're not completely bored ;-)
This weekend I went visiting my parents and I took the opportunity to do some hiking in the Rhön, the middle german highlands. I found this tree through google and flickr and on friday evening I went there to do some scouting. The next morning I got up 5am and went up there again. The conditions were nice, there was still hoar frost on the grasses and it was such a quiet morning.
In the background you see the first light of the sun lightening up the valley which I wanted to capture. With the chilly foreground I think this is a nice contrast. Hope you like it. Next photo will be a seascape again I think.

Ok just a short interruption from the Alps uploads.
Last weekend we were visiting some friends in Frankfurt and on saturday evening before driving back I had some spare time to go out shooting. Just two hours and quite spontaneous (first I didn't even want to bring my cam) so I didn't do any planning on subjects to shoot.. Well I headed to the Main for the obvious shots as you can see above.
I used some manual exposures between 10 and 60 seconds to do a dri blending. The reflections came out quite nice and I'm content with what I got out of this trip, after all first I didn't even plan on shooting :-) Next time I will do some more planning since I know from some other photostreams around here that this city has so much more to offer when shooting architecture or maybe I need a local Guide ;-)

PS: the exifs shown on the right are not right. They are from the f/16 ISO 400 shot I did in addition to the f/8 Iso 100 shots just to see if the stars around the lights come out a bit better and to blend that in. When you layer multiple shots together in ps it takes the exifs from the firstst shot which is loaded. My canon would create way to much noise on iso 400 and 30 seconds.

Die Skyline von Frankfurt bei Sonnenuntergang
Il panorama notturno di Francoforte della sua skyline da uno dei ponti sul fiume Meno. La concentrazione di grattacieli (principalmente finanziari) rende questo luogo molto simile a Manattan (quartiere di New York) tanto famoso nel mondo, ed è proprio questa somiglianza che da il nome di Mainattan a Francoforte (Main=meno, il fiume che bagna la citta).

This weekend I was visiting my parents and I couldn't resist to sneak out in the morning to go shooting from the Milseburg, a nice viewpoint in the middle of the Rhön.
The conditions were great, awesome sky, still some very intense colors in the forest below and near the horizon some soft fog was rising.
A very soft light was laying over the land when I took this photo. I used a lee 0.6 soft and a lee 0.6 hard gnd for the sky and a polarizer to get some more vivid colors.

Caratteristica struttura ospitante un centro commerciale sulla Zeil (strada del centro storico) di Francoforte. E' costituita da un vero "buco" nella struttura a vetrate dell'edificio.
