Djúpalónssandur

Djúpalónssandur is a stunning black sand beach located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. This unique location is known for its dramatic rock formations, crystal clear waters, and rugged coastline. For photographers, Djúpalónssandur offers a wealth of opportunities to capture the beauty of Iceland's natural landscape. From the iconic "lifting stones" to the haunting shipwreck remains, there are countless photo-worthy spots to explore.

This turned-to-stone troll Kerling is the most photogenic rock on this beach. Other rocks and waves provide interesting foreground for photography. Be careful though, waves can be very dangerous here, which is actually the case for many places on Iceland.

Photo tips: You'll need rather wider lens here. I think that a moody weather with some waves really suits this place, but nice sunrise, or probably even better sunset, would also be great times for photography here.

Getting there: It's just a short and easy walk from Djúpalónssandur Parking, which is easily accessible from the main road (574) circling the westernmost part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
