.... one of the five jewels in the crown of Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" is composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Cinque Terre area is a popular tourist destination. Over the centuries, people have built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the Ligurian Sea. Paths, trains, and boats connect the villages as cars can only reach them with great difficulty from the outside via narrow and precarious mountain roads.

Spending a few days at the wonderful Ligurian coast south of Genova, we found this lovely small town named Camogli. Not half as famous as Portofino, wich is just a few kilometers away, but at least as unique located and with an awesome atmosphere especially in the evening when the lights turn on.
Past the bridge, the old medieval town is made up of cobbled and steep streets dominated by arches. In a pleasant dark and cool atmosphere there are some nice craft shops.
Wonderful friends, a glass of wine & the smell of the summer..this is the enchanting town of Vernazza, in Italy
..... and of course we didn't leave this place until the light reached its peak.

For a short time in the early morning, Riomaggiore, like the other villages of the "Cinque Terre", is as lonely as in this picture. Then the tourist nightmare begins, so get up early!

Another panoramic sunset look at the first Cinque Terre village, Monterosso al Mare.... Liguria, Italy
Another view of Manarola as seen from the coastal track leading to Corniglia.... the setting sun almost acts as a spotlight on the village, as a storm approaches...

Cinque Terre. Italia 2016
Camogli is a wonderful Italian fishing village and tourist resort located on the west side of the peninsula of Portofino. I love to visit this place especially in winter, when you can walk alone on the beach listening to the songs of the sea..

... perhaps not as picturesque as nearby Cinque Terre, the pastel coloured buildings on the waterfront with Castello Doria overlooking the harbour is a must visit!
Here's another take on the Cinque Terre coastline in Italy, with Corniglia in the foreground and Manarola in the distance... it's a shame many of the trails between the five towns are closed.

Castello D'Albertis is a historical residence of sea captain Enrico Alberto d'Albertis, and was donated to the city of Genoa on his death in 1932. It currently houses the Museo delle Culture del Mondo (Museum of World Cultures). And, being on top of a hill, offers a great view over Genova and the Mediterranean.
