Trollstigen More og Romsdal, Norway

This must be one of the most beautiful drives in the world! With eleven hairpin bends and narrow sections, it was definitely not the most relaxing. However, when surrounded by such magnificent scenery, there is certainly no sense in rushing! It was a challenge to keep my eyes on the road ahead and not allowing myself to get too distracted by all the sights!

Thankfully, we had the opportunity to visit this location twice. The first time around, the whole scene was covered in low hanging clouds and rain. I could hardly see 100 meters in front of me. Photographing it would have been impossible. We were rewarded the next day with blue skies and puffy white clouds. The valley was cleared of any fog and visibility was fantastic.

Always thinking of new perspective for such an iconic location, I decided to hike up to a higher vantage point and capture a bird's eye panorama from above. Viewers are also able to follow the twisting roads all the way to the valley floor. The cars on the road provide a sense of scale. Stitching such a wide angle panorama became quite a challenge, especially on my laptop which certainly struggled to process the 62 megapixel image. I had to make several attempts to get Photoshop to work the way I wanted and I am finally pleased with the results. Hopefully, you will agree that my patience pays off!

Early morning in Ålesund, Norway

After taking a blue hour photo the evening before (yet to be posted), I returned in the morning to see what the Sunrise would bring. The sun actually rises from behind this view so I was surprised, but pleased to see some colour in the distant clouds.

One of the famous viewpoints in Norway. Mount Aksla offers very easy access to this wonderful view over the Jugendstil city of Ålesund. Earlier I posted a sunrise view over the city, which can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/adelheids-pictures/33833089505

A unique stretch of road which takes you right out to the ocean’s edge. In 2005, the road was voted Norway’s «Engineering Feat of the Century», and is also known to be the world's most beautiful drive. It connects Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters. The road was opened in 1989 and is toll free. The Atlantic Road has National Tourist Route status and the entire stretch between Bud and Kristiansund is one continuous experience packed with coastal scenery, culture and history. The contrasts between a trip on a sun-soaked and tranquil summer day and a foam-sprayed journey in a storm from the northwest are amazing. Take your time and open all of your senses. The Atlantic Road experience will give you memories for life. Park your car at designated stopping places, climb a hillock and enjoy the salty air and the magnificent view. Whether the ocean is flat calm or a storm is brewing; there are great nature experiences in store.

This is Eikesdalvatnet, a lake that is not much visited but offers a spectacular circular drive, starting and ending in the town of Sunndalsøra.

Somehow the beautiful lakes with their reflections, in Norway, never cease to inspire me. This place is not far from the famous Geiranger fjord, but almost nobody stops here. It lies along the road which is sometimes referred to as the Golden Route, running from Trollstigen to Geiranger. I love the view across the lake with a splash of pink offered by the fireweed.

Eikesdal lake in Western Norway is a beautiful lake with very little boat traffic. On this morning the water was calm as a mirror allowing for this beautiful reflection. From Eresfjord on road 660 you can make a day trip along the lake and a toll road, over the mountains and end up in Sunndalsøra....a very beautiful journey.
