Glencoe National Nature Reserve

Glencoe National Nature Reserve is a stunning natural wonder located in the Scottish Highlands. This reserve is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the golden eagle and the Scottish wildcat. The rugged landscape of Glencoe is a photographer's paradise, with its dramatic mountain peaks, cascading waterfalls, and serene lochs. Some of the most popular photography locations in Glencoe include the Buachaille Etive Mor, the Three Sisters, and the Lost Valley.

The depths of Winter
Lagangarbh Cottage, Glencoe, Scotland
by Pete Rowbottom

As the title suggests this really was the depths of Winter... and a few days that were the coldest I can remember in this area.

I've posted one different image from this morning before but had totally forgotten about this one, as you do.. I was getting together some images for the club I'm in to put forward for a forthcoming CPAGB qualification, and I found this one lurking about, the guy doing the talk on it said I should definitely enter this as one of my 10 images, again another case of forgetting about images in a set with intentions of posting them up later on, then simply and moving onto the next and forgetting all about them, I'm murder for it..

So seeing as he liked it and I've discovered it again I thought I'd remedy matters and post it up as once again we are entering into the depths of Winter, thankfully not quite at this stage yet though, makes your bones freeze just looking at it!

The balancing of the exposure wasn't the easiest here to get that mist right against the backdrop but being one of those unusual occasions where the land is actually brighter than the dull snow laden sky helped with that.

Another one from the archives that had escaped attention, Just South of Glencoe this is a well known spot that's always worth a visit, especially after decent rainfall, which is definitely plentiful in these parts!

Mist in the Glen

I recently found this image on the hardrive and uploaded it to Instagram (still can't decide wether or not I like Instagram...) I was looking for some details on it and realised I hadn't uploaded it to Flickr so thought I may as well.

One from a few Summers ago with the D750, great evening light this day and the river level had enough in it to use it as a main part of the composition with this one dry lone rock half sticking out begging to be included in the image, good to give the wellies a good clean as well :-)

Perfecting isolation
Lagangarbh cottage, Buachaille Etive Mor
by Pete Rowbottom

Explore #6 15/10/16 Glencoe is one of the most attractive places in mainland Scotland for me, very remote surroundings with something different around every corner, this cottage is a great feature than can be seen from a good way with it's fantastic mountainous backdrop and the colourful river sitting ahead of it it is in an amazing location, you can't help but wonder why it was actually built here if it wasn't purely for the views as there is literally nothing else here. Stob Dearg (1022ft) is directly behind the cottage.

A typically moody Glencoe sky here today but not too dark, a bit of a wait in the river and the tops of the mountains cleared off nicely, every time I've shot this Cottage before it has been in the rain so this made a nice change to be able to get into the river and take my time a bit more, I could happily live there, Smoked Salmon, glass of Malt, and a real fire, surrounded by all that what more would you need?

Desolate
Lagangarbh Cottage, Glencoe, Scotland
by Pete Rowbottom

It's amazing how the weather can totally transform a scene, this is one of my favourite locations in the UK for shooting and walking, I like to get up here in different weather to show how the scene just takes on a whole new feel, the weather this trip was extremely harsh and was snowing for the most part this day, it was pretty hard to get anything without having the element covered in snow and having to start again, just a case of keeping trying until you got blob free images, not the easiest when your trying to shoot a pano sequence...

Luckily the odd break / reduction in snowfall allowed some shots to be bagged with the tops of the mountains still visible against the darker areas of the snow filled sky.

The day after this was taken the land was far more visible and a lot of the snow had gone until it started again later i the day, this was pretty much what I wanted with the little cottage almost disappearing in the the mass of white beneath the now scary looking mountain, looking back to the shots I took here in August it is almost unrecognisable as the same place, but still the thoughts of lighting a fire in there with a decent bottle of single malt remain the same! even more so at this time of year.....

Highland Morning
River Coe Falls
by Pete Rowbottom

Explore #6 28/09/17

A typically biiterly cold morning in Glencoe after a very early start (aborted attempt to) shoot sunrise further South at Lochan Nah - Aclaise, but the snow had been falling far too hard to even get out of the car and chance anything there, driving in it wasn't exactly fun either without snow tyres so I had retreated back further North again with empty hands, the heavy snow had yet to reach these parts for today and allowed me 30 minutes or so shooting here before breakfast in very overcast stormy conditions but with some nice light breaking through the cloud in intervals minimal use of filters needed to get a decent shutter speed on the falls.

By the time breakfast was done in the Chlachaig this was completely white.
