Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park is a stunning natural wonder located in the southern Sierra Nevada region of California. The park is home to some of the largest trees in the world, including the famous General Sherman Tree, which stands at over 275 feet tall. In addition to its impressive trees, Sequoia National Park boasts breathtaking landscapes, including towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and cascading waterfalls. For photographers, the park offers a wealth of opportunities to capture stunning images of nature at its finest. Some of the most popular photography locations in the park include Moro Rock, Crescent Meadow, and the Tokopah Falls Trail.

While we lived in LA, a quick getaway meant either Yosemite or Joshua Tree National Parks with Death Valley occasionally thrown in. Now while these parks are fantastic locations to visit, they require quite a bit of planning due to their popularity in recent years. So a quick getaway is not a possibility. Then we heard about Kings Canyon and Sequoia National parks. They were closer to us than the other parks except for Joshua tree. When I learned that the canyon is deeper than the Grand Canyon, I was hooked. We made an initial exploratory trip to the park and found it was mostly just us a couple of other families. The remoteness and rather sparse amenities once inside the park make it a challenging destination for most people.

On the benefits side, the views my god the views, it seems like this park has some stunning viewpoints overlooking some actual wild landscapes. Then comes the stunning Canyon and the brilliant Giant Sequoias.

One of the coolest geographical features is the Morro rock at the Sequoia national park that provides you with a high vantage point to view the entrance to the park. I made this trip in 2013 and discarded this panorama shot as unusable because, quite frankly, none of the software I had at the time could make a decent stitch of the image. But when I was going over my pictures and saw this series, I tried my luck again with photoshop cc and voila!

Another old capture from the Sequoia National Park, this one was captured just before the sunrise. The day we visited the park, unfortunately, had a very hazy sunrise and just before the sunrise the beautiful light which was streaming in was lighting up the fog or haze or whatever that was in the sky. I knew that it was not gonna last and wanted to capture it before it was gone. We came across this outlook point just before we reached Moro Rock and I had barely enough time to get the even pinkish glow and a nice landscape shot.

Five minutes after I took this shot we came across a black bear who was crossing the road and later met with a park ranger who informed us that she saw another female bear with baby and that they were having pretty good bear sightings this year. It was one of my dreams to see a bear in the wild and I am glad I got to see one. It would have been really cool to see a brown Kodiak version though .

Thanks for visiting, Have a great day.
