Beaver Creek Falls, Oregon
Beaver Creek Falls, Oregon
by Bonnie Moreland

Beaver Creek Falls, is a small waterfall located at the confluence of Beaver and Sweet Creeks in Lane County, in Oregon. The waterfall is known for joining of the two creeks becoming one intertwined waterfall.

It is a 20 foot fall in a wide cascade and is the centerpiece attraction of the Beaver Creek Falls Trail trailhead and Recreation Site.

This fall can be photographed from above, as is shown here, and from a different trail about 1/2mile downstream, where you can walk in and see from stream level.

One of our first stops during our summer road trip to Oregon was the Oregon Coast. Apparently, I haven’t learned anything from our past trip and we drove straight into massive Pacific fog formations just like the last time. In case anyone is wondering, most of the stunning coastal shots of Oregon are taken in fall when the weather is most cooperative. This time it was quite a shock to see 35F summer sunrise temps on the beach.

This shot was made at the Cape Perpetua overlook near Bandon. I had this spot in mind since our last visit but time constraints didn’t allow me to venture here the last time we visited. This time we managed to reach the spot just before sunset as the fog from the Pacific Ocean slowly started to engulf the coast. I really liked the moodiness of this scene. Hope all had a great 4th of July week.

Sweet Creek Trail, Oregon
Sweet Creek Trail
by Bonnie Moreland

Sweet Creek Falls Trail contains a series of about a dozen waterfalls near Mapleton, Oregon that cascade down a lush green gorge providing one of the most easily accessible high concentration waterfall hikes in all of Western Oregon.

Sweet Creek got its name from the Sweet Family who settled in this area in 1876. Here they logged timber, fished, and farmed the land.

There are no boring moments on this sweet and easy trail, where you’ll pass 11 waterfalls in just 1.1 miles. Sweet Creek Trail is something of an engineering marvel, using catwalk-style bridges to allow hikers up-close views of a stream that drops like a slinky down basalt ledges in this narrow, mossy canyon.

Located in located in Cape Perpetua, Central Oregon Coast. Quite a challenging place to shoot: you need to get the shutter speed right, there is a constant mist on the lens, so you need to wipe it off all the time, and in my case the sun was on the extreme left creating lots of flare with the 14-24mm, that's why I ended up posting a blue hour version :)

I took about a hundred shots, but to finally selected 3 to compose this photo.

But at the end of the day, a very fun outing with my Portland buddies David Gn, Joe McLaughlin and Terence Lee.

Another shot from the stunning Cape Perpetua outlook on the Oregon coast. We originally planned a sunset shot here and for once was at the outlook point on time. But the summer fog got in as it got closer to the sunset time. One thing I admire about landscape photography is the unpredictability of nature. You go to a location with a shot in mind and only about 20% of the time nature will cooperate with you and provide an expected scene. But as I do this more I am noticing that an unexpected weather often provides much better options than the expected one and make landscape photography more exciting.

Pheasant Creek Falls, Oregon
Pheasant Creek Falls, Oregon
by Bonnie Moreland

I really should have gone to this waterfall earlier in the spring. The water coming over wasn't as impressive.

Pheasant Creek Falls is the superior attraction of the paired waterfalls at the end of the Oregon's Niagara Falls trail. With a considerably larger drainage area than the stream producing neighboring Niagara Falls, Pheasant Creek drops over a scenic two-stepped fall - first rolling over a rounded 18-foot tall drop into a narrow alcove, then plunging freely for 106 feet into a huge amphitheater doused on all sides with moss and lichen. Because Pheasant Creek isn't a large stream at all, as the volume of the stream subsides during the summer the falls become an excellent spot to take an invigorating shower during the hottest days of the year.

The Siuslaw National Forest officially lists the falls at 112 feet tall.
