Ash Sharqiyah

Another slice of paradise
Wadi Shab
by Adelheid Smitt

Sometimes I like to go back to some of my favourite photos and memories from the pre-digital days. This photo was taken in 1998, when I was living in Oman, and it is of the wonderful Wadi Shab. First time I walked and waded through this area, I could hardly believe my eyes, so beautiful! I was lucky to experience this also at a time when Oman was not yet a tourist destination, and anyone who visited had to have an invitation, or else book a very expensive luxury vacation. Things are different now. The beauty of the country is there for everyone to witness, but some of its charm will have been lost in the process. I know for one thing, that a four lane highway now runs somewhere above this wadi.
