What is your favorite skyline that you like to shoot? For todays post I went few months back in my archives and decided to post this NYC skyline shot from the Brooklyn side. It was very cold but very beautiful evening that day. I must say that I wasn't feeling very comfortable shooting but I did it anyway! What do you think?

“What if you were wrong? What if everything you ever believed was a lie? What if you missed your opportunity because you didn't know your worth? What if you settled on familiar, but God was trying to give you something better? What if you decided not to go backwards, but forward? What if doing what you have never done before was the answer to everything that didn't make sense? What if the answer wasn't to be found in words, but in action? What if you found the courage to do what you really wanted to do and doing it changed your whole life?”

Traveling to New York, and this was one of the skylines I wanted to photograph. The sky was a dull grey and during blue hour the image started taking on some strange colours. So I made the choice for b/w, which in my opinion also brings out the starry lights better on the Brooklyn Bridge.

I would rather be the man who bought the Brooklyn Bridge than the man who sold it...

It was bound to happen sooner or later, my love for Bridges combined withe fact that now live just minutes from one of the most iconic bridge in the world. I finally got around to spend a a wonderful evening shooting the great Brooklyn Bridge.

Its early spring in New York and the weather is getting really nice so decided to brave the slight chill and venture to the waterfront. As expected there were a lot of photographers and even couple of wedding shoots going on. I wanted to get the waves as a foreground interest and the new 12-24 f4 was excellent in giving the wide angle view and I used a lee 0.9 ND filter to slow down the exposure a bit.

This was also the first time I went to shoot with the 12-24 Nikkor and all I have to say is wow. The lens is almost unbelievably sharp and at f11 I don't think you need any more resolution once you combine it with the D7000. I have couple of gripes with the lens though. First the focus scale is extremely small, I hope Nikon realizes that this is a wide-angle lens lens with a lot of photographers needs to set the hyper-focal distance. That's not possible most of the time as the lens has very few distance markings. Second is not really a complaint but a warning that you will need the lens hood almost anytime you have a light source near the frame.

Hope you all enjoy the capture more shots to follow.... Thanks for the comments and faves!!

Another capture from the Brooklyn bridge trip of the Manhattan Bridge. This was a tough shot as the rocks were being illuminated by tungsten light and the city mostly had fluorescent lights and the white balance was really tricky to get right. I think I got it good but if anyone knows a better way of processing this scene please do let me know!!

The Brooklyn Bridge, built between 1869 and 1883, connects Manhattan with New York's most populous borough, Brooklyn. The bridge is one of the most famous and magnificent landmarks in New York City.

The Verrazano Narrows Bridge. I live about 10 mins from the bridge and the Shore parkway greenway has become my regular bike path. Last Saturday I had bought a bungee net for my bike to transport my camera bag (my experimentation of carrying my backpack on shoulders during the DC trip gave me sore shoulders for a week). The $8 net did wonders to carrying my ThinkTank retrospective camera bag and my lee filters. I also biked close to 21 miles on bone jarring Brooklyn roads and the net held up brilliantly. I was also more prepared for the trip this time as I carried more water and better clothing and the trip was much better than the DC trip. So yeah I think I am getting the hang of it.

The shot was composed just east of the bridge and I wanted the light trails from the road to lead in to the picture, so this location was perfect. All I had to do was to wait till the sun lit up the sky perfectly and snap away. I made a makeshift reverse ND grad filter with two LEE ND grads and loved this capture. Hope u all enjoy it and have a great day..

Finally get my self around to finish editing this shot. Between the initial shot and the final edit it took me around 5 months. I went to this location 6 times while trying to figure out what to do with it. Shooting at nigh wasn't an option cause there is just to many light sources all around coming from many directions. I wasn't fortunate enough to catch the rainy day also. Since there is so many cars parked in the street I had to do something different to be able to hide them and make everything seamless in the final edit. While shooting in the city, I like to do that with this long exposure technique and use the car trails as leading lines as much as the cover for the distracting area. What do you think?

The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan at Canal Street with Downtown Brooklyn at the Flatbush Avenue Extension. The main span is 1,470 ft (448 m) long, with the suspension cables being 3,224 ft (983 m) long. The bridge's total length is 6,855 ft (2,089 m). It is one of four toll-free vehicular bridges connecting Manhattan Island to Long Island; the nearby Brooklyn Bridge is just slightly further downtown, while the Queensboro and Williamsburg Bridges are to the north.

I took this picture some time ago while I was walking across the Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. The pathway has a huge metal mesh grille which makes it impossible to shoot but the view of the Brooklyn Bridge with downtown as background is nothing but stunning at sunset. I took this shot through an opening where someone had cut the wire mesh and squeezed my camera through tiny space and took three shots which I later combine to capture the light. I would have preferred to use my ND grads but the opening was simply was not big enough.

When I initially combined to form the HDR I didn’t like the result as I thought the picture was too comical to be real. But I was playing with it last week and tried individually processing the three raw files and then combining them to an HDR image an the result was far more realistic and pleasing. Hope you all enjoy it..

Another old shot which escaped my initial review. This one is of the lower Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn. This shot was taken just after sunset with some of the twilight glow still on the sky.

I get nostalgic sometimes about my old life at New York and the fact that I didn’t really had a whole lot of time to explore this amazing city. Only a few people are lucky enough to live there and have the free time to explore the city, I used to be so tired after work that I simply didn’t had any energy to get my camera out. Hopefully I could return here once again and spend some proper time in the city.
