Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa, located in Dubai, is the tallest building in the world, standing at a height of 828 meters. It is a popular tourist destination and a must-visit for anyone traveling to Dubai. The building offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding landscape, making it a perfect location for photography enthusiasts. The observation deck on the 124th floor, known as the At the Top, provides a panoramic view of the city, while the 148th floor, known as the At the Top Sky, offers a more exclusive experience with a higher vantage point. The Dubai Fountain, located at the base of the building, is also a popular spot for photography, especially during the evening when the fountain is illuminated with colorful lights.

Well, I finally made it to the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa (a.k.a Burj Dubai), thanks to my wife for queueing over 1 hour last week to get the tickets for today!

It's not a cheap ride (around 20 euros), but it is damn fast (60 seconds for 124 floors!). You barely feel a thing, except a slight discomfort in the ears like in a plane.

Dubai Skyline Dusk
Dubai skyline from Dubai Creek Harbour
by Jiri Hajek

Dubai Creek Harbour is one of the best spots to watch the magnificent Dubai Skyline.

Photo Tips: There's a plenty of space along the waterfront for you and your tripod. In case you want to include some of the foreground objects, which is definitely a nice option too, you'll have to cope with a lot of people, particularly in the afternoon.

It's a location worth to visit both for sunrise and sunset. You'll need a moderate telephoto, particularly if you want to stitch several photos to a panorama.

Getting there: Drive to the Dubai Creek Harbour, there's plenty of underground parking and walk just about 300m then.

'L' for the best view in LARGE

Another clear and relatively cool (25 C) evening in Dubai, it is such a treat to go out shooting these days! I already had two shots from that vantage point, but never had a blue hour one.

A little break in my latest B&W series, this one really deserved to be shown in glorious colors! :)

Silence

by Daniel Cheong

One of those rare cloudy nights in Dubai. I was also lucky with the reflections, just after I took this shot, the wind kicked in and the reflections were gone. I waited for 30 minutes for the wind to go down and take more shots but then I gave up.

Special thanks to my new photog buddy Sebastian who had the great idea of bringing me to this place that cloudy night.

Glowing Dubai
Dubai Skyline with Marasi Dr Bridge
by Jiri Hajek

I got lucky for this photograph. First, there were low clouds flying around Dubai skyscrapers, which is far from a common thing in Dubai. And then a ship entered into my long exposure and lit the bridge from below. Really enjoyed this place!

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m and a roof height of 828 m, the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009, supplanting Taipei 101, the previous holder of that status. The Two Burj - Blue Hour
Dubai Skyline from the Palm
by Daniel Cheong

So here is the blue hour version of the night shot I posted a few days ago. Not the nice blue that I wanted, but it's a bit hazy now. Only one exposure. I could have selectively changed the white balance of the sky to make it more blue, but I was a bit lazy! ;-)

Merry Christmas to you my Dear Friends! I wish you a wonderful Christmas eve with your loved ones.

I will be offline for the next 6 days as I will be discovering and exploring the Incredible India. I've already arranged a meeting with some of my New Delhi flickr friends. It's just so great to have flickr connections all over the world now!

Curvaceous
Dubai Skyline with Marasi Dr Bridge
by Daniel Cheong

An unusual harsh light shot on my photo stream! I thought I could get away with it by creating a tone-mapped HDR, use a very long exposure for the water, and convert it to B&W. And as a bonus you get some clouds, another rarity in Dubai!

Technical stuff: 7 exposures tone-mapped HDR with Oloneo Photo Engine, water replaced with a single exposure shot with ND400+ND8 stacked (f/22, 4 minutes), final composite image converted to B&W with Nik SilverEfex Pro.

Sorry for not commenting much lately, likewise don't feel obliged to leave a comment :)

Burj Khalifa

by Daniel Cheong

Type 'L' for the mandatory LARGE view!

Another 'forgotten' shot from my archives, taken in July last year. A non blue hour view of Burj Khalifa for a change :)

Please check the same view at the blue hour, 20 minutes later.

Obviously the most predominant building in Dubai's skyline, Burj Khalifa is 828 meters high and has 162 habitable floors.

Taken from one of the terraces of the Address Hotel (you can see the swimming pool in the foreground). On the right side is the gigantic Dubai Mall, and on the left side is the Souk Al Bahar with its traditional architecture.

Downtown Dubai

It is more and more challenging to get a clear open view on Burj Khalifa and its surrounding, as new constructions are obstructing the view from many viewpoints. This shot is a digital blending of 4 exposures: 2 exposures at ISO 100 f/8 to capture the cityscape, and 2 exposures at high ISO to capture the fast moving LED illumination on Burj Khalifa, and the fountains.

There are 70,000 LED bulbs illuminating Burj Khalifa, covering an area of over 32,000 sq. metres.

I know I posted a similar shot in 2010, actually I was hoping to get a cloudy sunset for this shot, unfortunately the clouds cleared out :-(

It has been quite chilly in Dubai these days, between 14 to 18 Celsius. I am not going to complain though :)

Top View
View from Burj Khalifa
by Jiri Hajek

Early morning view from the 124th floor platform of Burj Khalifa. It can get pretty crowded there, so not easy to find your spot. Also, the glass was fogged from outside and the empty space between the glass and railings is very limited, so not easy to position a camera. Anyway, got this as a memory from this insanely tall building.

A shot from my archives, which I somehow forgot to post. Here is the Palace Hotel in the so-called 'Old Town Dubai', and as a bonus, the world's tallest tower in the background. Thanks to my flickr buddy arfromqatar who was staying in this hotel and who made that shot possible (as usual we had some issues with the security guard).

This is a digitally blended Vertorama.

Curving The Burj K.
Dubai Skyline with Marasi Dr Bridge
by Daniel Cheong

Hello my dear friends! Well, it's been a while since my last upload, almost a month! Mostly due to lack of motivation and inspiration to go out shooting.

But tonight I had a good reason to go out for a shooting since my long time flickr friend Aubrey Stoll from UK was visiting Dubai.

There is a sand storm at the moment, hence a very dense haze, and quite unusual colors for my night shots.

It's good to be back anyway! See you on your streams soon!
