Sunset at Castle Stalker, Loch Linnhe
Ponte Sant'Angelo, Rome, Italie (HDR / DRI)
Ecco lo splendido scenario che è praticamente ipossibile ammirare in solitudine se non mi fossi trovati in quel luogo pochi minuti dopo l'alba. Piccolo sacrificio ma che mi ha donato riflessi, libertà e contrasti unici.

Following on from the last image again at Castle Stalker at sunset, this one was a while after the last image with the sunset in full swing the sun just about to drop behind the horizon at the side of the now almost sillhouetted castle, after the day of weather that had proceeded this there was no way in the world that I expected to get any colour from the sunset let alone this performance which seemingly appeared out of nothing, the thick all day long clouds parting at just the right time to let the glorious late light come pouring through, it was quite a wait to see if anything was going to happen here but so glad I stuck it out, and lets face it there are a lot worse places to be waiting around in!
I'll probably post 1 or 2 more from here as the after glow from the sunset was stunning as well during blue hour, allowing for some very colourful and unsual long exposure images.
I'd really like to get over to that Castle one day and have a look around, for me there's something about islands that makes me want to visit them, probably as they usually look so inaccesible, I imagine anyone trying to attack this Castle in years gone by would have really had their work cut out !!

The evening before I took the Kraichgau photo I photographed this scene in Heidelberg. Beautiful view as usual. I waited just for the lights to go on to snap the last shot.
In total this photo is combined out of 5 exposures I took while my camera was mounted on the tripod. This was needed to get good detail and even light in the whole scene.
Wanna see how I put those exposures together, then watch my exposure blending timelapse, which I recorded for this shot.

Originally went on a trip to Glencoe on Sunday with a group of tog friends but unfortunately rain cancelled that adventure and we ended up crossing over to the east for a mini tour of Scottish Castles in the norht east. Dunnottar Castle was the final stop as the sun went down behind us.
Nice crisp winters morning at Loch Awe and Kilchurn Castle. First time I've managed to get out in all of December, on a trip with some friends, Loch Awe was the first stop of the day.

Castle Stalker is picturesquely set on Loch Laich a tidal islet off Loch Linnhe near to Port Appin Scotland. The islet is accessible from the shore at low tide. The Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval Tower-Houses in western Scotland
One of the most photographed castles in Scotland and so difficult to get a different perspective on it, this is my latest, through the morning mist.
Standing at the head of Loch Awe on what is today a low, rocky mound, but which, in medieval times, was an island, Kilchurn Castle was built, probably, around 1440 by Margaret, wife of Sir Colin Campbell, first Laird of Glenorchy. This original 5-storey keep, later extensively improved and extended, was to be well-tested in battle it was used to garrison Hanoverian troops in the tumultuous days of the Jacobite Risings.

This scene in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, is likely not far removed as it has been for centuries. Dunluce Castle, over on the next cliff ledge, has a history dating back to the 13th Century. As you may be able to tell, it’s undergoing some restoration.
The ruins of Dunluce have taken on the very character of the basalt and chalk cliffs where it abides… and its history lives on in this image.
In many ways, it reminds me of Evelyn McCullough, as she had taken on the charm and beauty around her that was her beloved Ireland. I saw that for myself one glorious morning over two years ago along this coast, a time I will never forget. She passed from this life on Saturday after a valiant bout with incurable cancer… even in the face of fear and certain death in her last two years, hers was still a life of fullness and selflessness… and beauty that surpasses the land that she loved. She will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her... as always. God bless her family and friends.

The main entrance into the Belfast Castle Demesne is now where Innisfayle Park meets Downview Park West, just off the Antrim Road (part of the A6).
I’m still recovering from surgery of 12 days ago, but, after a minor setback, I’m feeling little to no pain and getting stronger by the day. By spring, I should be totally healed, further strengthened, and good to go carrying gear on our mountain trails… but for the next couple of weeks, I can’t lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, which is a true aggravation. I have an appointment with the surgeon at the end of the month… hopefully, if everything goes well between now and then, he will lift restrictions and I can get busy attempting to chisel up the physique. I need to make sure I can continue my photographic aspirations sans “Sherpas” for years to come because Joyce won’t carry gear!
So, my current condition is good for sorting out images from our trip to England that I’ve yet to post. This one is of the gardens on the grounds of Arundel Castle. After touring through 700 miles of England, we caught up with Peter (www.flickr.com/photos/diskdoc) and his lovely friend Sandra… they really went out of their way for us and made Arundel Castle second on the camera agenda, and what a fascinating place it was! It was a typically English rainy day, so Joyce toured the castle with Peter and Sandra. I chose to take advantage of the weather here in the gardens… the structure you see here isn’t the castle, but rather a chapel on the grounds. The castle was some distance away, and as we were somewhat limited in our time there, Joyce texted to inform me where they were within the castle and inquired as to my location… “The gardens.” Just keeping it real. It’s somewhat funny to me that when we go to places, like Costco, for instance, something catches her eye and she walks off without me knowing that she’s left me. So, I text her with, “Where am I?” See what a good husband I am? I know it’s my fault for not keeping up! Sorry, my ADD kicked in… could be cabin fever… back to the issue at hand: It was a bit windy, too, so I had to open the f-stop a bit more than I would normally care to in this type of image. Yet, I find this image not only appealing, but also, it’s given me ideas for furthering my own garden projects… my castle’s only a little more than 1,200 square feet, however… I have work to do!
