JUST ENOUGH LIGHT
Chicago Loop
by Nenad Spasojevic

Are we done or not? God only knows how excited I get just thinking about catching the good sunset over Chicago sometimes soon! But until that happens I’m just gonna have to be happy with what I have! I know it’s a classic shot but I had to have it redone and what better time to do it than while this crazy fog was covering downtown. What do you think?

SHADOW BOX
Chicago Loop
by Nenad Spasojevic

I revisited this location during this summer to see if I can get something different out of it each time. I tried different times of the day and I recently tried it shooting with infrared. Loved the outcome. Some great shadow textures are revealed in this version and the BW was a way to go in my opinion. What do you think?

TANGO
Chicago - Marina City
by Nenad Spasojevic

Did you catch it? After the first attempt to catch the super moon rise behind the lighthouse failed, due to thick clouds, we quickly ran in to town to try a different vantage point. Clouds were moving quickly so by the time we got in the city we had a clear view. This is one of the frames I captured than night while the golden sunlight illuminating Marina Towers and the moon.. BRING BACK THE BLUES
FAMILIAR PATHS
by Nenad Spasojevic

So how did the weekend go? I didn’t have much luck photography wise to be honest. I made an attempt to capture some images but it did not work out so I got lazy and spend some time recharging my mental batteries. This is the river shot taken from the Wyndham Hotel. What do you think?

FAMILIAR PATHS

It’s all about fun, right? This and image shot form Wyndham’s hotel in downtown Chicago. It was a night well spent and I really wanted to capture this frame from this perspective. Shooting from this location was highly anticipated and I was prepared to wait as much as it takes to get this frame. My OCD was never really fully satisfied with the obstructed views from London House :) What do you think?

LONDON HOUSE
London House Terrase
by Nenad Spasojevic

LONDON HOUSE How did you kick off the start of this week? I’m still hoping and waiting to see some fall color in the city! But until that happens I’m back and shooting cityscapes. I’m contemplating for a long time how to shoot the views from a London House terrace. For those who don’t know, that is a luxury hotel at the riverfront in Chicago. Since it’s accessible for anybody who is willing to pay for a drink at the rooftop bar it was a challenge to find a different perspective from that spot. Besides waiting for the right weather conditions the bar is always crowded. Since it’s getting colder there is not much people there so this was the perfect time for me to explore the terrace and enjoy that drink in peace and all while happy hour is on ( every Monday and Tuesday :) What do you think?

FLASH
From D'Angelo Park
by Nenad Spasojevic

Long or not? When shooting cityscapes I often like to include some movement in to my work and mix in a long exposure with the static subject. Having the long exposure in two dimensional medium adds a sense of depth and breaks up the monotony. Depth can be added to your composition in many other ways but we will touch up on that in some future posts. What do you think?

ROUND THEM UP
ROUND THEM UP
by Nenad Spasojevic

Are they still around? Well, probably not anymore. It sure was fun seeing them around the town. But now after seeing what’s in front of us, weather wise, I believe that moments like this will be rare this month. It looks like we will all be happy if we see some color by the end of it. I’m not sure what is going on? We seem to get a glimpse of spring every third day and the rest of the week just feels like winter. Tulips were out for a few days and I thought I should board the tulip train and capture the frame that feels like spring while I can. That sure didn’t last long. What do you think?

RIVER GORGE

by Nenad Spasojevic

Are you going out? People often think that I’m crazy when I spend all day out on this subzero temperatures while the snow storm is in full force or when I’m happy to see a frozen lake :) I always find myself struggling to explain that feeling to someone who doesn’t have the same passion in life. What usually helps is when I show the final result of that effort but seeing how my passion ignites the passion of that someone is by far the most rewarding thing of all. What do you think?

Really!? This morning we got greeted with a beautiful spring fiery sky and a spring morning temperatures, stay tuned for those images or you can check out my stories. Today just a few hours later we got hit again with the full blown, winter wonderland like, snow storm! This is getting crazy! What do you think?

DIAMOND CITY
Trump Tower from the Chicago River
by Nenad Spasojevic

Do you like night photography? For me night is a perfect time to wonder around and try to find a good location to shoot and to unwind from the day job hustle. Being able to find a remote and peaceful spot in the big city is a tough task but every now and than we get lucky. This is one of those spots where you can sit down and watch the night fall and the city lights come alive while still have some peace and quite. What do you think?

ON MY WAY
ON MY WAY
by Nenad Spasojevic

How did it go? Yesterday was not that chaotic, surprisingly, so on the brighter note I will go back to the last weeks supermoon rise. I strongly feel that events like this one should actually draw our full attention. Not that often, if ever, some of us get to see sun rushing down on one side of the river and supermoon soaring up on the other, while both equally cast their light on the city! So for those of you who might never experience something like this, take a moment and enjoy. What do you think?

ANCHORED

by Nenad Spasojevic

I usually don’t post two photos in a row with the same subject but this event was very interesting and rare so I had to find a different location and get one more shot. The colors cast from the peer lights was to harsh and the color did’t work as on the previous shot so I decided to go BW in this case. What do you think?

Time fly’s when you are having fun, righT? What a weekend. I didn’t get to have this much fun in a while. I’m still under impression. The only bad thing is that is already over and I’m back to the usual routine. This is a random shot that I ended up liking very much. I guess it’s because it really felt like spring. CHICAGO

by Nenad Spasojevic

I manage to take this shot just a minute or two before all heaven break loose above the Chicago. Despite all the weather problems, that night the shoot was success and I walk out with some great shots from that evening. I really wanted to have this in my portfolio. The trick was not to walk away with the cliche composition and to add something interesting on my own. I played with the few different exposure times. I couldn't combine one exposure time and get the clouds that I wanted and the bus trails that I needed to hide the visual noise behind it. I than ended up using one for the clouds and one for the bus trails, to get the final result. The 10sec exposure was used for the clouds and 1.5sec exposure for the bus trails. What do you think?

Do you have better luck with it? I was really looking forward to this short work break. The holiday was great and spending some quality time with my family and friends is alway a bonus and I’m grateful for it. The weather on the other side sucks, it’s bad for all four days and that is a bummer. But, hey, we will not let that stop us from getting out and hanging together and try to salvage what we can. This is one was shot back in September on one of the similar gloomy days. What do you think?

TRANSITION
ON MY WAY
by Nenad Spasojevic

Good morning/day to you, hope your week is going well? Here in Chicago we are anticipating Spring Equinox. Shooting in the city all the days coming up to it, and after it really gets fun. Deep defined shadows, strong pronounced highlights and sharp angles, it’s a dream for architecture photography. What do you think?

THE FALL

How did it go? So here we are at the beginning of another week after a fun weekend. After shooting for the moon last nigh, we had one failed attempt and one relatively successful. Images are coming soon. For now I will leave you with some good light. What do you think?

Is it always about fun? If you ask me, the answer is always YES! Playing with textures, looks and a different perspectives to capture this city never gets old. It keeps my mind in shape and I think it really inspires my creative process in general. This shot takes us back to the Chicago’s River Walk and a few good moments spent with some friendly faces.
