Dalilea House near Acharacle, Scotland has a historical background. The original part of the house, which may date back to the 15th century was allegedly where the Gaelic Poet, Alastair MacDonald (known as Alasdair MacMhaighstir Alasdair) was born. It has also been said that this is where Bonnie Prince Charlie stopped on his way up Loch Shiel before raising his Standard at the head of Loch Shiel in Glenfinnan in 1745. There is a lovely walk from the house to the Green Isle which gives good views over loch Shiel to Beinn Respiole. The Green Isle, also known as St Finan’s Isle, has served as an ancestral burial site for the MacDonald’s of Clanranald who were followers of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The island is accessed from a pier at Port an Eilein. The remains of a stone church are evident on the Island and there are many funeral cairns in the area that mark the coffin routes taken.
