"Lavaux is a region in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, in the district of Lavaux-Oron. Lavaux consist of 830 hectares of terraced vineyards that stretch for about 30 km along the south-facing northern shores of Lake Geneva.

Although there is some evidence that vines were grown in the area in Roman times, the actual vine terraces can be traced back to the 11th century, when Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries controlled the area. It benefits from a temperate climate, but the southern aspect of the terraces with the reflection of the sun in the lake and the stone walls gives a mediterranean character to the region. The main wine grape variety grown here is the Chasselas."

Lavaux est une région viticole du canton de Vaud (Suisse), connue pour ses vignobles en terrasses au bord du lac Léman. Le 28 juin 2007, Lavaux entre au classement du patrimoine mondial de l'humanité de l?Unesco.

Rivaz (Lavaux) is a Swiss wine village, harmoniously embedded in the surrounding vineyards. The few inhabitants are privileged with a perfect view on Lake Geneva, the Savoy lakeside (France) and the French Alps.

Saint-Saphorin is a small wine village located on the northern shore of Lake Geneva in the Lavaux district which is well known for its terraced vineyards. (UNESCO World Heritage Site) Seen and captured on a hiking trip from Saint-Saphorin to Lutry last weekend.
