Another shot of the beautiful green color water of Donnell Lake and the fall colors of Stanislaus National forest. I had posted previously a shot from the same location of the view you get from here of the Donnell Dam, this view was located straight down from where I was standing and I loved how the green color of the water contrasted against the grey granites and the touch of fall colors on the trees. We only had a little time here as the rain clouds were coming in and we wanted to leave before all the roads were enveloped by thick fog.
Thanks for visiting hope you all enjoyed the shot.

During our short excursion In to Sonora Pass we came across the beautiful scenic outlook named Donnell’s Vista. We found the location and parked our car and took a short walk to the vista point intent on photographing the Basalt volcanic peaks but as usual nature had other plans. When we reached the vista point we had clear blue skies with a smattering of clouds but in about 5 minutes dark clouds started to pour into the pass and completely immersed the peaks taking with them all my planned shots.
But another interesting thing happened, the color of the Donnell Lake changed to deep green color and the scattered fall colors along the shore line looked even better. So we scampered across to the edge of the cliff and made this shot. Kind of remind me of the Banff National Park in Canada a bit.
Thanks for visiting..

This was a shot I took during our trip to mono lake when we did a short drive across Sonora Pass. While we were doing some hike around the donnell outlook I came across the tree and it stood apart from the nearby forest. The sky was getting darker by the minute and light was dull making everything soft, so I used HDR in this image to make the tree pop a little out of the background.
Shooting trees in the forest is especially challenging for me since it’s hard to make them stand out from the background. It also doesn’t help that you are shooting from the base of the tree, but for this one we were standing at and elevation so I managed to get a head on shot rather than the looking up shot. Hope you all like it..
Thanks to all Phoide contributors to Donnell's Vista!
Most notably Sandeep Thomas.
