East Lothian

Quite a strong and fantastic light show by the Aurora over Scotland and the UK last night, while I missed the best part I still got to see quite a spectacle! I decided to head to Dunbar and utilise the Bridge to Nowhere for a bit of foreground interest.

Another shot of the Longniddry shipwreck, thought I was in with a chance of getting the water still around the wreck but missed that by a bit, think I'll plan on an incoming tide instead.

Craigleith Island, lying just off North Berwick on the Lothian Coastline, East of Edinburgh, an annoying island that I can never seen to get onto, but always a good reason to visit North Berwick, especially when the weather stays dry (rare) and there is lots of cloud about, I was lucky here as the sea was very rough (no chance of an island trip) but it stayed dry for a few shots, then once again it poured down, pretty happy with this one as the window I had was pretty much the only one of the day from what I saw!!

A much under visited and underrated part of Scotland, a lot of people head straight for the Highlands and miss gems like this just outside big cities like Edinburgh. The sea here on this day was very rough, getting this close was only allowed by way of an unlocked perimeter gate.. I kept having to retreat to clean the ND and grad filters, the whole shot probably took about 45 minutes after numerous failed attempts, my trainers and jeans got a good dealing with as well, although it looks relatively calm here, anyone who shoots long exposures will appreciate that the sea to the left of the frame was crazy and even an 81 second exposure could not tame it, I managed 2 shots without spray, counted myself lucky and moved away (to the non tidal sanctuary of the pub), I don't mess with the sea!

Happy New Year to everyone, sorry for the block of posts but during the Festive season my Broadband was down and has only been reconnected today! Bass Rock in the blue hour, liked the effect of the slightly longer exposure times on the waves coming ashore.

Down at North Berwick on Saturday for the sunset, didn't come to much. Should of checked The Photographers Emeris first.

St. Baldred's Boat is certainly not a boat, but the name given to a dangerous rocky outcrop which juts into the sea north of Seacliff beach

Another shot from the beach at North Berwick, I liked the line of foam/bubbles at the foot of the frame.

Decided to re-process a couple of old shots into b&w. Originally were posted in colour a while back.

North Berwick Law, also known simply as Berwick Law, is a conical hill which rises incongruously from the surrounding landscape (indeed, this is the definition of the Lowland Scots word "law"). It overlooks the East Lothian town of North Berwick and stands at 613 ft (187 m) above sea level.

The summit bears remnants of an Iron Age hill fort, and the ruins of later military buildings that were once used by lookouts in both the Napoleonic Wars, and in World War II.

Returned to the Lagoons at Musselburgh to try and catch the sunset but it didn't really come too much, twilight was better I think.

Belhaven Bridge looks very odd at high tide but all makes sense when you see it at low tide .Bass rock in the background Thanks for viewing every one

Happy New Year to everyone, sorry for the block of posts but during the Festive season my Broadband was down and has only been reconnected today! The old pier/jetty at North Berwick harbour, my first time back after its fairly recent renovation.

Paid a visit to Seacliff, near North Berwick, in the hope of some nice light, was good to be back there again.

North Berwick in East Lothian, somewhere I always go back to, over and over. I thought I had posted this before but I can't find it in my photostream so I must have forgot, have such a backlog of pics I can post due to neglecting Flickr recently and mostly posting on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ScotlandExplored something I need to change!

I've been going through the Hard Drives culling all the rubbish thats been lying around and not going to get used when I came across this long exposure of the Tidal pool at North Berwick and thought I quite like it, so here we have it for your viewing pleasure... or not!

Always been fascinated by this pool at North Berwick and the long exposure effect on the family peering into it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Happy New Year to everyone, sorry for the block of posts but during the Festive season my Broadband was down and has only been reconnected today! Out on the Horsheshoe at the end of North Berwick beach, it was a high tide at the time and the waves were fairly crashing ashore.

I can't actually confirm if Dunbar does indeed rock but it was all I could come up with for a title for this one!

Another return trip to Seacliff beach, seems like ages since I'd last been.

Barns Ness by night, took an impromptu trip down to the lighthouse since some clear skies were forecast.

While the Power Station down at Cockenzie is being slowly demolished, I'm not sure of the fate of the old jetty at the back.

Weather was a bit changeable down at N.Berwick that day, gradually getting better as day went on.

North Berwick beach. Not a 100% sure of this last shot. Unhappy with a terrible colour cast from the Hitech ND filter (3 stop), funnily the Hitech ND grads don't suffer from the same issue.

Trawling through the archives again, at least I know I'll get a chance to get out shooting at the end of the month. Done more tweaking in post on these in trying to remove a colour cast from the ND filter and a bit happier with the outcome.
