The Ancient theatre in Taormina was built by the Romans on the site of an earlier Greek one. It is the largest theatre in Sicily after that of Siracusa. Today it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The highest mountain in the back is volcano Etna.

The Ancient theatre in Taormina was built by the Romans on the site of an earlier Greek one. It is the largest theatre in Sicily after that of Siracusa. Today it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The highest mountain in the back is volcano Etna and if you watch closely you can see a smoke trail rising from its peak.
