Dettifoss is the most powerfull waterfall in Europe.

This turned-to-stone troll Kerling is the most photogenic rock on this beach. Other rocks and waves provide interesting foreground for photography. Be careful though, waves can be very dangerous here, which is actually the case for many places on Iceland.

Photo tips: You'll need rather wider lens here. I think that a moody weather with some waves really suits this place, but nice sunrise, or probably even better sunset, would also be great times for photography here.

Getting there: It's just a short and easy walk from Djúpalónssandur Parking, which is easily accessible from the main road (574) circling the westernmost part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

This long exposure shot (1.3 seconds) is processed with the new pipeline suggested with the arrival of Darktable 3.0. So, in the first stage were applied plugins like White Balance, Denoise modules, Lens correction, Tone Equalizer, Contrast Equalizer, Color Balance and RGBFilmic with "Linear Rec2020 RGB" profile. In a second stage were applied tone curve and Velvia specific color adjustments with "Abobe RGB Profile".

In conclusion, interesting new pipeline in Darktable 3.0

A Haida Neutral filter of 6 steps was used.

Finally, Reynisfjara stones were visible, accompanied by a great white webbing on the sea.

Aldeyjarfoss, Iceland

After a short but sharp rise to the top of Skogafoss waterfall, you see an amazing view.

Another shot from our trip to Iceland last month. This is the lake of Fjallsarlon, a place not so famous as Jokulsarlon but extremely beautiful and almost empty of tourists what allowed us to take as many photos as we wanted. The light was slowly going down as it happens in this area of the earth and the sky took that wonderful pink color before the darkness arrived. A moment full of calm. Hope you like it.

Hverfjall is a giant circular volcano explosion crater in North Iceland. Erupted in 2500 BP, the crater is approximately 1 km in diameter.

The panorama view was stitched by 5 images.

Just a shot from inside the car while driving to Kirkjufell with the mobile.

Excuses for the bad quality, although it looks weird, its final appearance caught me at some level. So I like it!

It has been hard to process both shots, to make the panorama and to achieve certain level of contrast, details, and texture.

I took this photo in Iceland during a recent trip along this amazing country. This cascade is Svartifoss, one of the most famous cascades in Iceland, located in the Skaftafell National Park. It is a singular waterfall due to the basaltic formations that surround the cascade.

In this case I placed my tripod in the center of the water stream to capture the water flow and used a long exposure to obtain that nice effect on the water.

A must see place if you travel to Iceland

It was very windy, fortunately the cliffs on the right blocked most of the wind from West and so having a sharp long exposure wasn't impossible. While I don't like over-smoothed water, 40 seconds seemed to create the best patterns here.

Photo tips: Very wide angle lens are useful here in order to capture the nice cove below, which makes a nice leading curve to the cliffs in the distance.

Getting there: About 200m easy walk from parking right to the coast.

Jokulsarlon, Iceland

The beach of Jokulsarlon in Iceland is really unique. I´ve been to many glaciers worldwide, in Patagonia, Alaska, New Zealand but I´ve never seen something like what we can see here in the beach of Jokulsarlon were the ice blocks broken from the glacier navigate to the open sea and are finally deposited by the waves on the sand of the beach were rest for hours or days until finally dissolve.

The colors of the ice, sometimes blue such as this one, and the magic forms that appear with the interaction with the waves makes it easy to spend hours here taking photos or even just seen the blocks and listening to the waves.

Garður Lighthouse and its nice red stripes offers very nice photographic opportunities.

Photo Tips: I like the frontal view from the bridge with its symmetry. You can use ultra wide lenses right on the bridge, or back a bit for slightly different compositions with rather normal lenses. However, there are other great possibilities from either side of the Lighthouse.

Getting there: You can park right next to the Lighthouse. This is a great spot to visit right from the airport, as its only about 10 minutes drive. Might be great before a night flight home...

This is a really nice waterfall. Possibly a bit ordinary by Icelandic standards, but there are some interesting compositions possible and this one from a cave is the most unusual in my opinion.

Photo tips: A bit tricky to capture, since even my 10-24mm (15mm full-frame) wasn't wide enough. So I opted for 3 frames panorama later stitched in Lightroom, which worked pretty well.

Getting there: Just turn off the main road to a small dirt track and park there. A good 4WD vehicle could easily get right next to Skútafoss, but I'd say it's better to walk the last few hundreds meters and enjoy the scenery.

Since it's easily accessible, you can expect other people during the day.

Dettifoss waterfall, Iceland

I wanted to emphasize the wild sea around Reynisdrangar and so decided to stack several frames. Hope that you like the result! ;-)

Kolufossar is an interestingly shaped waterfall at the beginning of a nice and deep canyon. It's definitely worth the short detour from the Ring Road.

Photo Tips: I like how the waterfall looks from below, within the canyon. You'll need a wideangle lens here. However, even different compositions are worth checking out, like directly up from the bridge.

Getting there: It's just about 6 km from the Ring Road on a good gravel road. Parking right next to the waterfall.

I like this particular view of the Garður Lighthouse because beach creates a nice leading lines towards the Lighthouse. And the photographer standing in front of the lighthouse adds a nice scale to the whole composition.

Getting there: The beach is just a few steps from the lighthouse parking.
