Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam was controversially named after President Herbert Hoover.
I took this shot during my cross country trip from New York to California. My wife flew in and joined my at Las vegas and accompanied with me for the rest of the trip. Her flight was to reach at 11 pm and I had the afternoon to myself with nothing much to do and I decided to check out the Hoover Dam. I managed to get there as the evening sun was lighting up the peaks in the nearby hills. Hope everyone like it...

Lake Mead from the Hoover dam scenic vista. this was a capture I took during my Brooklyn to California road trip. I was supposed to meet my wife at Las Vegas and we were to do the rest of the drive together to San Francisco. I kind of reached earlier than expected and saw the signs for the hoover dam and decided to spend the evening there rather than just go wait at the airport.
I was a bit skeptical about the vehicle checkpoint with my car being packed to the hilt but the guards were really nice and friendly and waved me through after a couple of questions. I took this capture just as the sun was setting and lighting up the hills around the lake. Thanks for visiting my pictures...
Finally clouds at sunset! I have not been having any luck recently with clouds in the sky at sunrise/sunset in many of the locations I have been...
