Westminster
Westminster Bridge to Big Ben
by Michael

Last monday I was in photographers heaven for a few minutes. London before sunset with a storm front rolling in from the east presented the best photo opportunity in this year so far and I was in exactly the right place.

I have an Article on my blog where I provide some behind the scenes info to how this photo came to be, if you are interested.

The London Eye
London Eye
by Alan Taylor

The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3 million visitors annually, and has made many appearances in popular culture.

In March 2020 the London Eye celebrated its 20th birthday by turning its pods into experiences in partnership with its sponsor lastminute.com. The special experiences included a pub in a capsule, a west end theatre pod and a garden party with flower arrangements to represent the eight London Royal parks.

Part of a set that I took a couple of years ago. I'm still trawling back through old photos, since I haven't taken any new ones for a while.

Big Ben behind Westminster Bridge
by Michael

The continuation of my London series. Here's another famous perspective of Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. I went for a long time exposure to give this photo something special.

I also wrote a few new articles on my blog about tripod and filters I use for example.

Silence
Westminster Bridge to Big Ben
by Pete Rowbottom

I was really lucky to get anything here today as it was pouring down and I got a royal soaking before I got here, I decided to visit a spot undercover right next to here to try and wait it out, with a few mins amazingly it did stop and allowed to to not only get a nice long exposure with the low light but also manage to get all the storm clouds, with 30 minutes it had completely cleared and was sunny for the rest of the day, well worth a soaking, to think I almost gave up for the day.... Also pleased with the colour version, but I'm really feeling the black and white vibe at the moment, especially for stuff like this, just feels a lot more emotive to me when you remove the distraction of colour.

Westminster Glow
Westminster Bridge to Big Ben
by Michael

The continuation of my London series with photo number three taken during that dramatic sunset at Westminster. Right after taking this bracketed exposure I ran down to find cover under the bridge, where I took the photo I posted last week. I have one more photo, which I might show you sometime. I was so lucky that evening. 4 big shots out of 20 Minutes of shooting is quite a good rate for me.

Soon after taking the photo I showed here yesterday I had to run for cover. The dramatic light turned into a short but heavy downpour. The next dry place was right under the Westminster bridge in this passage underground. As I turned around after the short spring and saw this view I didn't hesitate to take another couple of photos. If it wasn't for the rain I might never have gone down there and found this gem of a perspective.

All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go
Westminster Bridge to Big Ben
by Alan Taylor

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the striking clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower.

The official name of the tower in which Big Ben is located was originally the Clock Tower; it was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom. Wikipedia

This shot was taken just after the renovation works had started.

Westminster Storm
Westminster Bridge to Big Ben

As an interlude between all the New Zealand Photos I want to show another photo from that incredible evening in London back in August. To see such awesome light at such a great location was really something special. I felt very lucky :-)

Processing on this one was my usual Exposure Blending, then some dreamy photo techniques and to finish it some contrast and color work. I explain all of this in my video tutorials, which I've recorded over the last years.

cheers

Another shot from a rainy, overcast, and gloomy day in the capital, still it provided some really nice contrasting light on the buildings and bridge, much more feel to the place when it's like this opposed to on sunnier days, if you can put up with the rain there's always something to grab when it breaks.

What lies beneath . . . .
Framed Big Ben
by Pete Rowbottom

Last time I was here I had no wide angle or tripod, so decided to come back when I was better equipped, it also should double as a great little place to shelter from the rain, apart from the fact that the brick lined roof let loads of water in so infact I wasn't much better off, except out of the wind... I liked the old paving stones and brickwork down here leading into the well known scene in front. 93 seconds @ f11.
