Hagia Sophia is a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It was the largest cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the completion of the Seville Cathedral in 1520. The current building was originally constructed as a church between A.D. 532 and 537. (Source: Wikipedia)

A classic 'shot to death', but I had to do it! ;-) This was the only clear evening that I had during my stay. Otherwise it was raining most of the time.

Digital Blending done with 7 exposures, all manually blended. The strong lighting from the spot lights was the most challenging part and I tried to reduce them as much as I could.

Of course, I have some very nice interior shots of Hagia Sophia that still need to be processed.

The Basilica Cistern is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul. The cistern, located South West of the Hagia Sophia was built in the 6th century. This cathedral-sized cistern is an underground chamber of 143 metres (470 ft) by 65 metres (210 ft), capable of holding 80,000 cubic metres (2,800,000 cu ft) of water, and covering an area of 9,800 square metres (105,000 sq ft). The large space is broken up by a forest of 336 marble columns each 9 metres (30 ft) high. (Source: Wikipedia)

My Dear Friends, I am back from a short trip to Istanbul, Turkey. Fascinating city indeed, 4 days was a bit short to discover all its beauty. Hopefully I managed to get some interesting shots (mostly interiors, as it was almost raining all the time). I did get a blue hour shot of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque that I will share later.

4 exposures 'handheld' (camera on the floor - tripod was not allowed), shot a ISO 800 f/4. Digital Blended manually with CS4. I will post a few more shots of this incredible places (different angles).

Looking up inside Hagia Sophia.

4 exposures handheld shot at f/2.8 ISO 1100 (1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 sec.) with my Nikkor Fisheye, distortions removed with a Photoshop plugin called 'Fisheye Hemi'. Digital Blending using CS4 Smart Objects including some manual blending. I wish I could have tried a fisheye vertorama to capture the whole thing but this was too much of a challenge!
