Probably the best known view of Cologne, with the Cathedral and the Hohenzollern railway bridge. A classic, but I wanted to have my own version of this photo as well.

The so-called crane houses (Kranhäuser) in Cologne were built in 2008. Each of the 17 story building is about 62 metres high, 70 metres long and and 33 metres wide.

Dom Cologne

Es sollte eigentlich eine Nachtaufnahme werden, aber leider wurde schon um 21:20 die Beleuchtung ausgeschaltet. Zum Glück hatte ich vorher noch eine Probeaufnahme gemacht.

Sunset at Raesfeld Castle, one of the pretty moated castles of the Münsterland area with a history dating back to the 12C.

I have often visited Düsseldorf, but only recently discovered this modern area which makes for some interesting blue hour shooting. The buildings on the right are by architect Frank Gehry and on the left the Television Tower. The full moon was a bonus because I had not actually planned it that way.

Burg Hülshoff ist eine typische münsterländische Wasserburg, deren Name sich von der Bezeichnung Hülse (auch Hülsbusch, Holst, englisch holly) für die Stechpalme ableitet. Sie liegt zwischen Havixbeck und dem münsterschen Vorort Roxel und gehört seit 1975 zur Gemeinde Havixbeck. Die Burg war von 1417 bis 2012 Stammsitz der Freiherren Droste zu Hülshoff und ist das Geburtshaus der Dichterin Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.

Garzweiler is een Duitse bruinkoolgroeve waar bruinkool in dagbouw wordt gewonnen en de naam van een dorp, nu stadsdeel, in de gemeente Jüchen.

St. Maximilian Church, Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Not far from where I live, just over the German border, is the area of Münsterland and there is an amazing number of castles. This one lies in the pretty town of Steinfurt.

Same castle as my previous upload. This is the toll house that provides the entrance to the moated castle.

Rheinufer Deutschland

Perhaps the grandest of the many moated castles in the Münsterland area. This photo is actually a combination of 2 shots taken 8 months apart. The first a golden hour shot in May. I waited for the lights to come on but they never did. So I returned for a second attempt in January. The lights came on but quite late. In the end it seemed best to combine the two images, with this result.
