North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in North East England, situated on the north bank of the River Tyne. It is a beautiful area with a rich history and a diverse range of landscapes, from rugged coastlines to rolling countryside. For photography enthusiasts, North Tyneside offers a wealth of stunning locations to capture on camera. The coastline is particularly picturesque, with sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and historic landmarks such as Tynemouth Castle and Priory. Other popular photography spots include the picturesque village of Cullercoats, the tranquil Northumberland Park, and the bustling Fish Quay in North Shields.

Reached between the tides via a short causeway, St. Mary's has all the fascination of a miniature, part-time island. The Lighthouse, completed in 1898 on a hazardous coast for shipping, remained operational until 1984 when it was superseded by modern navigational techniques. Since then the Lighthouse and former keepers' cottages have been operated as a visitor centre by North Tyneside Council. The surrounding Nature Reserve contains an area of rockpools, clifftop grassland, a beach and newly created wetland habitats.
Gale-force winds made photography challenging. Using a tripod was out of the question. What a dramatic light! In enjoyed every minute.

A big thank you to everybody who took the time to view, fave and comment my image. This is highly appreciated.
St Mary's Lighthouse just north of Whitley Bay on the Northumberland Cast, the small rocky tidal island (or part time island if you like) is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at high tide as seen here, you can see the causeway leading under the water.
This was going to be the only day I could shot this on this trip so I opted for high tide and just hoped I'd get some decent clouds to use.... which thankfully duly obliged, I picked this spot after a while walking around having a look and although I'm pleased with the place I chose it seemed to be the worst possible place to stand as I soon noticed there were hundreds of what I can only describe as 'sand fleas' leaping about and flying round, never come across these annoying things before.. by the time I was done shooting here they were all over me and all over the camera resulting in me having t have a right good shake down like a dog that's just got out of the sea... horrible critters. The joys of shooting seascapes...

St. Mary's Lighthouse is on the tiny St. Mary's Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. The small rocky tidal island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at high tide.
While it no longer functions as a working lighthouse, it is easily accessible (when the tide is out) and is open to visitors and has a small museum, a visitor's centre, and a cafe.
The lighthouse and adjacent keepers' cottages were built in 1898 by the John Miller company of Tynemouth, using 645 blocks of stone and 750,000 bricks. It was built on the site of a monastery where a small sanctuary light would have acted as a guide to passing ships. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1984 and stands at 38-metre (125 ft) in height.[1]

St Mary's Lighthouse. We started the night shooting from Old Hartley . We were having a lovely evening, the tide was low but then two idiots started throwing stones on the beach. After a while they went but then started throwing stones from the cliff tops onto the beach so we took a deep breath and moved around to this location.
