Deventer I The Netherlands
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a hopeful, happy and healthy 2021. The slightly lopsided "Waag" in Deventer is an early 16th Century weighing house and it is the oldest one in the Netherlands. The heyday for the building was the period when the city was member of the Hanseatic League and a lot of trade was done here of goods that were shipped in and out via the IJssel River. This photo was taken on one of the brighter days we have had so far this year. A different angle on the city skyline and the IJssel River than my previous images. This one was taken from the Wilhelminabrug. A little tricky because the traffic makes the bridge tremble quite a bit. I was glad for the magenta coloured cloud cover in the sunset. On the left the lights of the new pier can be seen.

My 500th photo on Flickr, and during these troublesome times and little travel, I think it is fitting to post another photo from my hometown Deventer, Netherlands. This was taken last week on the evening of the supermoon.

Finally a chance to photograph my home city using my new Canon 6D, a 24-70 f/4 lens and a 10 stop Lee filter. The image is much sharper than my previous attempts. For post processing I admit to having been inspired by some of Henk Meijer's photographs.
My hometown always offers nice views. Here you see Deventer at sunset on the river IJssel.
Taken a few weeks back during our one week of winter and snow. The bridge crosses the IJssel river.
The bridge in my hometown from a different angle. The Wilhelmina Bridge crooses the IJssel River towards a beautiful sunset. I hope we can all cross a bridge from 2021 to a beautiful and colourful 2022. May the New Year bring happiness, health, and colour to all of you.

My home town of Deventer, with the Lebuinus Church and the Wilhelmina Bridge over the river IJssel. Mid March the water level of the river was much higher than usual, making it seem like such a huge water plain. Photographed at blue hour, or should I say orange/pink hour.

A beautiful sunset looking towards the city from the bridge over the river IJssel.
Deventer lies on the IJssel River and having a river running through a city always makes for great photo opportunities.
My previous evening captures of Deventer were a little late in the evening. This time I wanted to catch the blue hour on a nice clear evening.
A December blue hour of the famous skyline view of Deventer to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

The Wilhelmina bridge in Deventer crosses the IJssel river. On this evening the water was beautifully calm allowing for some great reflections.

Another blue hour photo of my home town. (Upload 27/8/16)
A different view of Deventer this time, still from accross the IJssel river. This view features on the St. Nicholas chruch, also known as the "bergkerk" or hill church as it stands on a slightly elevated spot in town.
A blue hour of the capital of our province, Overijssel in the eastern Netherlands. Prominent is the church tower called the 'peperbus' or the pepper shaker.

A picturesque corner of one of the most tourist liked streets in my hometown. The Walstraat (Wall Street) is famous for the annual Dickens festivity in December In summer visitors enjoy the flowers and the unique shops in this old part of the city. A panorama of 2 horizontal photos.

The city of Kampen lies on the banks of the IJssel river in the north-east of the Netherlands. It has about 50 000 inhabitants. This photo was taken, looking south towards the city, and the characteristic bridge which connects the city to the railway station. The photo is a stitch of 3 images.
Another blue hour shot of my home town Deventer. There is a nice viewpoint just over the river IJssel which actually makes it very easy to photograph the skyline of the city, with the Lebuinus Church tower as focal point.
An evening shot over the river taken on the wooden pier.
The church of Deventer and the houses along the river front always make for a great photo I think.
Another blue hour view of my home town, but from a slightly different perspective.
Sunset at the windmill.

Blokzijl is a small picturesque town with a large harbour. In former days, before the closing of the Zuiderzee and the creation of the polders, it was a major trading port, especially for peat. Today it is almost landlocked, but a waterway still connects to the IJsselmeer for pleasure boats. It is a major tourist destination in that area.
A small road, forbidden for traffic on one of the last white days we had here in Deventer. Today the snow is making attempts, but not quite creating the blanket I would like.
After going for 2 sunsets and 1 sunrise, the second sunrise finally gave me some light instead of grey. And how! I had to hurry, the sun was visible...
