The Oldest building in Peebles dates back to 1195, along with many other Border Abbeys and Priories it was destroyed by the Soldiers of Henry Vlll on their raids in Scotland after the Reformation in 1560
The town of Peebles sits at the head of the Tweed Valley just 23 miles from Edinburgh and 40 miles from Glasgow. Not surprisingly, it is a popular destination for a day trip from these cities. It has a bustling High Street full of individual shops with a lovely Scottish feel to it.
