SCOTLAND 2012 - Loch Tummel
Very lucky with the weather for this one, I'd driven from Mallaig and in the 3 1/2 hours it had taken to get here it had rained non stop, I literally got here and it stopped! set up took a few shots and within 15 minutes it was pouring down again! the bad weather made for some great dark clouds though with dramatic lighting bursting through in the right place to illuminate the solitary building.

The great poet chieftain, Alexander Robertson of Struan, a staunch Jacobite, lived in a house called the Hermitage which is thought to have been on the site of or near to the current (ruined) Dunalastair House. The Hermitage was destroyed by fire after the 1745 Jacobite uprising. A double tower house was built on the site in 1801 but was burned down accidentally in 1854. The heavily ornamented Dunalastair House was built in 1862 by General Macdonald, then owner of the estate. It was damaged by fire after World War II and finally abandoned in 1952. The house’s contents were sold in the mid fifties after the current owner’s grandmother’s death and the house was badly vandalised in the sixties when the lead was stolen from the roof.

Although I personally believe that Glen Etive is the most picturesque glen in Scotland, Glen Lyon has to come a very close second.

It is one of over 40 bridges built in the Highlands between 1726 and 1735 as part of General Wade's 402 km of road construction. Glen Lyon (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Lìomhann) is a glen in the Perth and Kinross region of Scotland. It is the longest enclosed glen in Scotland and runs for 34 miles from Loch Lyon in the west to the village of Fortingall in the east. Wikipedia
Rock Lodge, part of Taymouth Castle estate, Perth & Kinross. Taymouth Castle grounds were remodelled and replanted between 1810 and 1862. The lodge was built with rustic and castellated features which followed fashionable styles of architecture of this time. The estate also employed guides to lead paying tourists around the remodelled landscape during this period. Taymouth Castle was built for the Campbells of Breadalbane and stands on the site of Balloch Castle, which was built c.1550
