Emerging, Italy
Santa Barbara Church
by Adelheid Smitt

The Santa Barbara church in the Dolomites is a well known photo spot. When I drove there in the morning it was clear, but after I got my camera and tripod out it was all fogged up. After about 90 minutes, the church, the trees and the mountain finally started emerging from the clouds. I waited longer and finally got a clear picture, but looking at my shots from that location I decided I liked this misty one best.

Evening in the Dolomites
Tre Crime from Toblinger

The sky over the "Tre Cime" was perfect all afternoon. Loose clouds promised a dramatic sunset. I found my position for the final panorama, set up the tripod and kept shootong as the light got better. The Paternkofel was lit awesome, but then a thick bank of clouds in the west prevented the sun from throwing a few more bright spots onto the north face of the three peaks, wich I was waiting for. After this photo the colors faded out very quickly. All in all, it was a fantastic day and I was more than satisfied with the number of photos I've got and their quality thanks to the awesome Nikon Z7 wich I had to bring back next day.

The sunrise wasn't quite what I was hoping for, still I like the way it lit up the clouds around Peitlerkofel mountain in the Dolomites.

Every photographer knows the problem. There are only two short time slots a day, when you are able to shoot outstanding photos, in terms of light quality. Early morning and evening. After the morning session, the rest of that day seemed endless to me, surrounded by this fantastic mountain landscape, waiting for the light to change to better. Of cause I keept on shooting and looked for the best position for the last, hopefully spectacular light of the day. Think there were some shots worth beeing taken, even if the light was not great. This is one.

This is the first photo of a series made recently in this amazing area of the north of Italy, the Dolomites, where splendid and singular mountains can be found.

For 8 days my friends Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Jose Francisco López and Ricardo Alonso and me walked through these mountains trying to capture some of its beauty. I hope you like it. I recommend you to visit their galleries, I´m sure you will enjoy.

In this case we walked up to the Locateli refuge, with our about twelve kg of photographic equipment to try the sunset and the sunrise of this known area of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. There where no options in the sunset because the clouds and the fog continuously covered the three famous mountains but in the sunrise we had some more opportunities and this is one of the shots.

Exposition de nuit (1h45). Un petit fond de lueurs était visible, probablement due à la pollution de lumière des villes.
