The Great Pollet Sea Arch

The Great Pollet Sea Arch is a real hidden gem of Fanad in County Donegal.

It is a spectacular natural sea arch and a fantastic example of marine erosion. It is located on a totally unspoilt stretch of coastline and has a lovely pebble beach adjoining it. This beautiful landmark is much photographed and a quick internet search will bring up many fabulous images for you. It is a steep hike down to the beach from the road but you wont be disappointed!

With very minimal signage, it is not the easiest place for the visitor to find so be sure to check your directions in advance (Google maps or the good old fashioned OS map will not let you down) and don sensible and sturdy footwear to tackle the steep track down which is not for the infirm, the unfit or the high heeled!

There are plenty more bays, sandy beaches and loughs to discover around the Fanad peninsula, from attractive coves, to surfing strands, and of course the pebble beeches too. You're also not far from excellent golf courses, horse riding, hill walking, fishing and water sports. Several scenic drives are signposted locally including the Fanad Drive - the most recent is the Mulroy Drive around the lovely Mulroy Bay.

On the other hand you may find the relaxation, views and tranquility of Great Arch Cottage difficult to leave!

Visit Fanad and enjoy!

Vik Sea Stacks at Sunset.

This day was had been an absolute washout, sheet rain all day, and thick cloud, not a hope of shooting anything, at sunset it was still horrible but we walked out to the beach at Vik to try and get some dramatic weather shots of the waves around the sea stacks, after 30 mins I'd given up as the winds were whipping up all the sand and I ended curled up in a ball on the beach it was that bad, pebbles bouncing off my knuckles while holding my hood down!! errr balls to this!!

With the weather from hell seemingly never ending we retreated back inland to shoot the church up high, no sooner had we left the beach this scene just broke out of absolutely nothing! had to leg it up the hill and set up really quickly with the long lens to grab this unfolding dramatic sunset, weirdly it was the best one we had all week, you can't turn your back on anything in this Country for 5 minutes, if you do you will miss something. After this had died off the grey drabness came back again before breaking once more into a huge afterburn of purple and red (pics to follow)

Check out the 5 people stood watching it on the beach adding scale

It was super windy at the black sand beach in Vik when I shot this image. The sand hitting my face was tough to deal with. It was a very cloudy day with some drizzle. There was no color at the scene and so ended up converting this image to B&W.
