A very clear but freezing cold afternoon in Jersey. My fingers almost froze off during the long exposures, but I'm glad I stuck with it. This golden hour was followed by a beautiful blue hour.
There is golden hour and then there is blue hour. I declare this shot to be silver hour. It was taken about half an hour after sunset. You can see the lights in the buildings starting to appear, but you can also see a clear reflective glow on several of the buildings. It was freezing cold (about -15°C) and I believe this is the same effect as Alpenglow, when ice crystals in the air reflect sunlight. It was a beautiful sight to behold, one which couldn't entirely be caught on camera. Later I will post the blue hour as well, and you can see the difference.
Preparing for the incoming heatwave, I like to remind myself how freezing cold it was when I took this photograph on an icy January evening.
