Tenerife

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is a paradise for photographers. With its stunning landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and unique flora and fauna, Tenerife offers endless opportunities for capturing breathtaking images. From the rugged volcanic terrain of Mount Teide National Park to the lush forests of Anaga Rural Park, Tenerife's natural beauty is truly awe-inspiring. The island's charming towns and villages, such as La Orotava and Garachico, are also great places to explore and photograph.

Teide from the rim

Watching sunset from the rim below El Teide.

The easiest to get here is to park your car down at TF-21 and walk a few kilometers up here.

I didn't plan to stay here until the night, but the weather was nice and the location so beautiful that I waited somewhat longer to get a night exposure as well.

Painted Morning
Playa de Benijo
by Jiri Hajek

Benijo is a pretty remote beach, but definitely worth the trip. The sea stacks and beach boulders offer plentiful opportunities for compositions.

Photo Tips: Any time of day can be interesting here. I'd prefer sunrise, but sunsets can be equally good. Watch out for waves!

Getting there: It's about an hour of mountain driving from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, so start early. Be careful while driving, since there's a lot steep curves, but the road is in a good condition, so nothing dangerous in case you are careful. There's parking right above the beach, but only for some tens of cars, which is more than enough for mornings, but might be harder to park in the evening.

On the plateau of el Teide, the 3718 m high volcano on Tenerife a bizarre rock formation has the merit of this title. Actually the volcano rises 7500m from its base on the ocean floor.

by Juan Blanco

Lighted Lighthouse

by Jiri Hajek

I'd prefer sunset here, but since the access to this location is limited, sunrise was easier to arrange. Fortunately, it's beautiful here any time of day and as a bonus, I had the lighthouse all for myself for an hour or so. Beautiful morning!

Very early morning everything was dark, except for the white illuminated village of Almáciga. This viewpoint doesn't disappoint in any time of day or weather!

Vista Plaza Basílica de Candelaria, Tenerife
Plaza Basílica de Candelaria
by Juan Blanco
