I don't know why I haven't shot this street earlier. I know it for 6 or 7 years now and I think I even tried to photography it when I had just started with photography. But this photo I deleted from my archive a long time ago, at least I didn't find it yet.

To get this shot I waited for blue hour and then fired away a few long exposures between 30 and 100 seconds. Often my exposure was ruinged by cars driving into the street and the red lines didn't fit the mood of the shot. So i needed a frew tries till I was satisfied.

Hope you like it!

Michelsberg
Michelsberg

Yesterday evening I was out shooting the first time in the new year. I hadn't planned to take many photos because the sky was grey the whole day. I mainly went to Bamberg to scout for future photo shoots. As I climbed the Michelsberg to have a look at the beautiful church there the sky began to clear in the west. I knew what this meant and setup my camera and waited. The blaze of color that came with the sunset was intense. Everything glowed. I was shooting to the east here to catch the warm light on the church and the sunset was so intense that even the sky in the east was glowing in beautiful magenta tones.

Evening in Bamberg, Germany
Bamberg - Altes Rathaus
by Adelheid Smitt

The best known sight of Bamberg is the 'Altes Rathaus', or Old Town Hall built in the mid 18C. It is built on a small island in the Regnitz River with a bridge running through the building connecting two parts of town.

Something different from me. The last weeks I was exclusively shooting tele. Usually I nearly always present wide angle shots here and I found that in my portfolio there are only a few tele shots - although I always carry around a big lense ;-)

Time to change this. The last weeks I always had the tele on my camera and started looking for other compositions than usual. What would work with a long lense?

The above photo is the result of an evening in Bamberg. 3 Month ago I had already seen this photo in my minds eye as I walked past this gate. It was still midday then but I already saw the potential and thought about a night shot with the masses of people turned into ghostly shapes by the long exposure.

2 weeks ago I brought my camera and setup the shot. There were masses of people and I had to take a couple of long exposures till the movement of the shadows fit into the frame. I positioned the camera so I got a nice diagonal with the cobble stones in the foreground. The lamp above was nicely illuminating the scene. BW was the logical choice here to accentuate the gloomy atmosphere.

cheers

When I booked accommodation in Kulmbach, I never realised we would have such a perfect vantage point, in fact I had never even heard of this castle and I hadn't given the moon much thought either. Sometimes you need a bit of luck.

Many associate Bayreuth with the Bayreuth Festival Theatre and Richard Wagner.

However, the Margravial Opera House in the city is much more...
