near a lighthouse......near Liverpool..... I suspect I might be posting rather more from here in he coming weeks, providing we are allowed to leave the house......
New Brighton Lighthouse, originally known as Perch Rock Lighthouse after the navigation hazard that it marks, came into operation in 1830 and continued as a navigation beacon until 1st October 1973, when it became a victim of modern navigation technology. The tower rises 90ft above the rock, the first half of which is solid. To gain access when the tide is out a ladder is needed to reach the first of the 15 iron rungs built in to the side of the tower that lead up to the door. A spiral staircase leads to the keepers' accommodation consisting of a galley/kitchen, a bathroom, a living room and a bedroom and then up to the lamp room. www.photographers-resource.co.uk/a_heritage/lighthouses/L...
I'm going to bore the pants off you, a weeks worth of lighthouse sunsets coming up................
Sunrise for a change!
And there seems to be a lighthouse in the shot.......well I never.
.........with a lighthouse! Yay!! Come on it's been nearly 2 months since the last New Brighton post............Ok I'll get my coat. Winter sunset.
On Wirral.......and near Wallasey.........and nearer New Brighton.......in the River Mersey twice a day...........stands a building.......of sorts......
Originally called the MV Overchurch now laid up in Wallasey Docks, East Float. Hopefully it won't end up like the Royal Iris....

Thought I'd best give it a break after last year.

oh aye, and a lighthouse........
Evening sky.
Liverpool sunrise, not particularly sunny mind.......
The opportunity arose for a shoot here as I was taking my car in for repair in nearby Liverpool at 0900, and I noticed high tide was 1045 over here so it would have been rude not to have a mooch across (or rather under) The River Mersey....
First shot of the day with the tidal breakers leading out into Liverpool Bay and the Irish sea.
I did quite well with getting this as not too long afterwards it aboslutely lashed it down with rain. The 10 stop hadn't been out for ages so thought it was time....
I think I got 3 images I like from this shoot on the Wirral (I did 2 other spots too) , which is great from a bonus trip, I have to take the car in again in a week or so so another trip will be made I think and see what else I can get this time, I'm not sure they will give me a courtesy car again though as the footwell and the boot were totally covered in sand when I took it back lol :-)
Portfolio of images on my own website here
Very kind of the Stena to create the ripples then tootle off and dock out of shot at Wallasey.
Working late a lot of the time lately so i've been spending a few minutes most evenings around here.........Well might as well make the most of the light nights! Plus it helps clear the perchloroethylene out of the old lungs............ Apologies for another shot of New Brighton lighthouse.
New Brighton groynes, or sea defences or whatever you want to call them!
Sunrise didn't happen quite as I'd have liked but I kind of like the end result.
Liverpool water front
Thought i'd best try and motivate myself to do something other than waterfalls this year.....so I rolled out of bed and 5 mins later rolled down the road.....
tune for anyone half arsed.... youtu.be/sj4DBhkJmYg
or is it Derwentwater...???
Sarsia, falling quite literally to pieces at the East Float, Wallasey. Apparently it was a marine research vessel, now I guess the marine life live in it, what comes around goes around I guess!
Erm, New Brighton lighthouse, again, sorry, I’ll get round to editing some other pics soon, promise!
Shot at the Marine Lake, West Kirkby, just before sundown, looking across the Dee Estuary towards North Wales. 212 seconds f16.

I've noticed during this lockdown that a lot of people are going back through their images and uploading some great stuff that would probably otherwise still be lying on hard drives undiscovered, so I decided to set myself a challenge this morning, instead of editing 'new' photo's, I would trawl back to over 5 years ago to see what I could find, and I wanted to find 3 images that I liked that hadn't seen the light of day before.
It wasn't as easy as it sounds!! there was some right junk in there, images shot badly, lens flares, non accurate expsoures, general rubbish, and softer images in some cases due to poorer glass.
This is the second shot I found, - the first can be seen here - www.flickr.com/photos/pete37038/49785340662/in/dateposted/
I remember this day going to see and shoot this rusty, old, and badly listing shipwreck, located within one of the marine basins (East Float) in Birkenhead.
It was quite hard to shoot as I remember even with a 10mm lens on as to get this foregroud I had to wedge myself right on the edge of the wall which dropped off into the harbour behind me.
The ship had a very intersting history too:
Former Fisheries Research vessel, RV SARSIA, built in 1953, sank at her lay-up berth in the East Float, Birkenhead many years ago. Sarsia sank in May 1998 due to a "slow leak." Dejas Marine bought the Sarsia in 1981 and renamed it Dejudah in 1982 when she was taken to West Africa and used as high definition oil survey boat untill 1986 when the oil business went a quiet and returned back to Dartmouth May 22nd. 1986 and then on to Plymouth where it stayed in Millbay Docks for about 2 years until sold and towed away, she could have sailed under her own power but there was some cracks in the rudder operating hydraulic cylinders and Lloyds deemed it unsafe.
This was in 2014, I have no idea whether or not she is still there anymore.
***UPDATE - Apparently she is still there and can be seen on Google Earth
Stay indoors, stay safe folks.

Thought i'd match the music to the pic again....... Life regret, never getting to see these live, I blame a mate who borrowed an REM and Husker Du LP from the record library (remember those!) and told us the Husker one was pants, still not forgiven him!

So far I've managed to find 2, through the first few folders I went through, going back to February 2014, this being one of them, the other strangley enough is totally different but also shot on the same day.
West Kirkby marine lake on the Wirral, and I seem to have gone for a really low perspective here with this one, which I still love doing some 6 years later.
Revisiting these images has rekindled some great memories, given some some good ideas about places to revisit, and has been a good marker to compare 6 years of progression in my shooting.
Oddly enough, apart from the aperture choice and focus point, there's not a lot I would do differently if I shot this today, on the others there certainly was !

and some rocks, and a high(ish) tide, and some groynes, and maybe some jellyfish, and some clouds, and a bloody big lighthouse!
And not a lighthouse in sight...........
New Brighton Lighthouse getting in the way....again....with a Formatt-Hitech 3.0 FC and a nd soft grad, can’t remember which one though, better start writing these things down.......
One of 2 images I managed to get from the 'sunset that never appeared trip' to New Brighton, this was a tricky image to get as the tide was really coming in quickly and the ground was very uneven on the breakwater so a bit of a balancing act was needed.
The light was hitting the lighthouse nicely from the side and plenty of cloud made a long exposure an attractive option, the tide was in against the breakwater in front of me and it was coming in around the back of me a lot more slowly, by the time I had set up and taken two images here it was time to go as the previously dry area right at the side of me was now under a foot of water, plenty of time to pack up and get off safely but it's amazing just how quick the water comes in, you can see how folk get caught out if they aren't paying attention...
No idea why the exif seems to have been lost with this one,, Nikon D750, Nikon 16-35 f/4 @34mm, 1S0 100, f/11, 109s.

A great location for a bit of lazy togging, sunset - blue hour - then night time all in 2 hours and a 10 minute drive from home.
Blue Hour down at Seacombe
much simpler than 10.....
Steve "shall we get tickets for this" Me "nah" Bugger....
Sunset as the tide comes in, I can think of worse ways to spend the evening.....watching England in the World Cup is a good example
Thanks to all Phoide contributors to Wirral!
