Temperature's rising
Brothers Water Autumn Reflection
by Pete Rowbottom

A beautiful early morning scene on Brothers Water, the sun had just begun to come over the fell tops and fall down onto the area, there was a load of low lying moving mist this morning and the sun has just started to hit it and the rocks on the shoreline, causing the mist to rise upwards even more.

Myself and Mike (Muddy Boots) - www.flickr.com/photos/muddybootsuk had decided to come here after shooting sunrise on Ullswater and I'm really pleased that we did as the light that followed was just superb, allowing to get 3-4 shots I'm pleased with from one location which is really rare to say the least, this one was a bit of a nightmare exposure wise with the sunlit mist very easy to blow out against the dark backdrop of the fells to the rear.

Something I honestly never knew until recently, 'Brothers Water' used to be called 'Broad Water', but the name was changed after 2 brothers drowned in it in the 19th Century..

Mike's done a Youtube video of the trip which actually includes this bit - you can it see here, give it a watch it's really good. - www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVZ389TxrTM&feature=youtu.be

First light on Brothers water
Brothers Water Autumn Reflection
by Pete Rowbottom

Following on from the last image, this was a very impromptu trip out, and it has to be said probably the single most fruitful photography trip I have ever had in such a small amount of time.

While we were here shooting the mist on Brothers Water I kept looking back urther along the Lake, tried various things but there wasn't really any sort of composition I was happy with but I knew there was an image to be had somewhere, as I remarked to Mike at the time. As the sun rose higher and was hitting the mountain tops it started cascading further down from the perfect angle, and for a few moments it lit the entire of the shoreline here illuminating all the reeds and trees while the mountains to the rear were still in shadow and the whole matching contasting scene was reflected perfectly into the still lake....

A quick run up the shoreline ensued and I knew exactly what I wanted to shoot, big lens on and zoomed into the far end of it, it turned out to be a 10 shot vertical panorama of the scene.

Shortly afterwards the scene had changed entirely and the moment was gone, always pays to keep looking around.

Mike's done a Vlog of the trip which you can see here, give it a watch it's really good. -
