Reynisdrangar depuis la plage de Vik
This was one of my toughest shots in a long time. I used a Lee 3 stop ND grad to balance the exposure and other that no other gadgets were used for this capture. We reached Big Sur around noon and the plan was to drive all the way down to Hearst Castle with family who were visiting and come back. Unfortunately CA Route 1 was closed that day just after Pfeiffer State Park due to a 6500lbs rock sitting right on the road. The plan was abandoned and we drove all the way back to Carmel by the Sea and had lunch and said farewell as our relatives took Rte. 101S on their trip to LA. We decided to salvage what’s left of the day and get some snaps of the Bixby Bridge, another icon of Big Sur Coastline.
I had this shot in mind since I last visited the place and the sun had already gone down but the sky was lit up in beautiful red hues and the clouds were absolutely perfect for a sunset shot. The only thing missing were some break lights and unfortunately due to the road closing there not much traffic. So my wife decided to drive our little Mazda over the bridge and I ended up with this great shot. While she came back from the ride I realized to my horror that the little case I use to hold all my very expensive lee filters were left on the hood of the car. I couldn’t believe how lucky we were no to drop them. I know I would be crying myself to sleep if I had lost them.
Hope you all enjoy the picture and have a Great New Years..

It was super windy at the black sand beach in Vik when I shot this image. The sand hitting my face was tough to deal with. It was a very cloudy day with some drizzle. There was no color at the scene and so ended up converting this image to B&W.
The wonderful view along Praia da Marinha during an intense Sunrise. It took me one week to get this photo. First there was the scouting and some test shots the day after we arrived at the algarve. The next three mornings I got up there early to photograph a decent sunrise but instead I got drenched two times and the third attempt ended in ok light, but nothing fully satisfying. So I went back there a fourth time on the last day of our vacation and was served this display of light.
I was so happy to witness this!
Early last year I visited the Algarve during a photo tour by www.paulosilvalandscapephotography.com. It made me fall in love with Portugal. Now I am looking forward to returning and this time doing a phototour with Paulo of the nort-west area including Porto, Aveiro and the coast (24-28 Nov). There are still some spots left if anyone cares to join. www.paulosilvalandscapephotography.com/porto-aveiro-photo....
We had some stormy weather at Vík í Mýrdal. But at this place I was happy with it. ;-)
These are the Reynisdrangar sea stacks seen from the black beach at Vik in southern Iceland. Don't ask me how I managed to capture the wave like that...

Vik Sea Stacks at Sunset.
This day was had been an absolute washout, sheet rain all day, and thick cloud, not a hope of shooting anything, at sunset it was still horrible but we walked out to the beach at Vik to try and get some dramatic weather shots of the waves around the sea stacks, after 30 mins I'd given up as the winds were whipping up all the sand and I ended curled up in a ball on the beach it was that bad, pebbles bouncing off my knuckles while holding my hood down!! errr balls to this!!
With the weather from hell seemingly never ending we retreated back inland to shoot the church up high, no sooner had we left the beach this scene just broke out of absolutely nothing! had to leg it up the hill and set up really quickly with the long lens to grab this unfolding dramatic sunset, weirdly it was the best one we had all week, you can't turn your back on anything in this Country for 5 minutes, if you do you will miss something. After this had died off the grey drabness came back again before breaking once more into a huge afterburn of purple and red (pics to follow)
Check out the 5 people stood watching it on the beach adding scale

What a releave this was, as I finally got to photograph a great sunrise during this years trip to Cornwall. The days before each morning when the alarm clock rang and I went out I couldn't see much more than 20 meters because of the dense coastal fog.
On this morning the fog cleared and I photographed this nice sunrise at Pednvounder Beach, which you can spot in the background.
One of my favourite photos of last year. I took it at Praia da Marinha during a memorable sunrise. Four times I went to this location to capture sunrise, two times I got wet, one time I got decent light and on the fourth morning I got extraordinary light.
Moments like these are the reason why I never have problems getting up early to head to a location. Even if 9 out of 10 times the magic doesn't happen, when it does it's such an additctive feeling that will get me out of bed the next 10 times ;-)
This rock at the beach Source D'Argent just rocks :-) Here photographed before sunset. I used a lee 0.6 soft + hard GND to cope with dyn range but also used bracketing to be more flexibel. The processing was some blending and then contrast and color optimization as I show in my Start2Finish Post Processing Tutorial

A magical morning near Porthcurno in Cornwall. How I had longed for such a display of light during the days before where I wouldn't even have seen Logan Rock in the distance due to the coastal fog.
