The beautiful columns of the Callanish Standing stones on the island of Lewis & Harris in the Outer Hebrides. This was taken on a summer evening just before I was eaten alive by the midges and had to race out of there.
Sunset and a beautiful explosion of colour on the water and rocks just off the island of South Uist.
The man on the beach is looking forward to spending some days like these again in 2017, where? I hear you say. The Isle of Barra of course, where else would you find such a peaceful place to chill out in.

Once a way of life, now a Holiday home.
The sweep of the shore at the southern end of "Traigh nam Faoghailean" beach on North Uist resembled this vortex looking scene.

The Calanais Standing Stones can be found on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The stones are made of Lewisian Gneiss which is one of the oldest rocks in Britain and dates back 3000 million years. The stones are placed in a cross-shaped setting and were erected some 5,000 years ago. They predate England’s famous Stonehenge monument, and were an important place for ritual activity for at least 2,000 years.

This little croft on the "Isle of Barra" in the outer hebrides of Scotland has it all, perched on a rock outcrop it has it's own sheltered beach and the open sea on the other side. What more could you ask for. You can just make out the "Sgurr of Eigg" in the distant background.

This is an oldie from the last time I was in Scotland. This is a Sunset view of the Calanish Standing Stones on the isle of Lewis & Harris. I will soon be visiting one of the Scottish islands again and hope to get some nice photographs.
One of the best examples of its type in Western Scotland. The Rodel Church was built around 1520 for the Chiefs of the MacLeods of Harris. The Macleods actually lived across the Minch at Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, its thought that this church was actually built on the site of another older church - but the facts aren't proven St Clements church fell into disuse after the reformation in 1560.

The Outer Hebrides have some fantastic beaches. Here I am looking South-West on the low tide, rocky beach of the Northwest corner of South Uist.
A beautiful, clear Sunset on the Outer Hebrides, with the last light giving some warm glow on the sand of this desrted beach. This was taken on the island of South Uist, and there was no one around for miles.

Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, designed by David Stevenson, was built at Butt of Lewis to aid shipping in the 1860s. Unusual for a lighthouse in Scotland, it is constructed of red brick, and is unpainted. The station was automated in 1998, one of the last to have been converted.
Kisimul Castle sits on a rocky island just off Castlebay, the main town on the Hebridean Island of Barra. It was built around 1039 and since that time Kisimul Castle has been the stronghold of Clan MacNeil. The castle remains, along with most of the island of Barra, were purchased by the chief of Clan MacNeil in 1937, who in 2001 leased Kisimul to Historic Scotland for 1000 years for the annual sum of £1 and a bottle of whisky.
