The City of London is a bustling financial district located in the heart of London, United Kingdom. It is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the city, including St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the Shard. As a photographer, the City of London offers a plethora of opportunities to capture stunning images. From the historic architecture to the modern skyscrapers, there is no shortage of interesting subjects to photograph. Some of the best photography locations in the City of London include the Millennium Bridge, Leadenhall Market, and the Barbican Centre.
Some of my first dabblings in the field of fine art black and white photography after doing a workshop in London last year.

Architectural wave to te sky... Called also Fryscraper
A bit of a change again and back to London, more architecture in the landscape and one of my all time favourite building, St Pauls cathedral, completely iconic on the skyline of London, so dominating yet not the easiest of features to shoot due to the built up areas around it, a nice cloudy day with no rain just the job here, there was a nice yellow hue starting in the sky, I was going to post that version but I'm a sucker for B/W and I've posted loads of colour shots lately.

The modern and rather curious exterior of the Lloyds Building in London banking district, an amazing building with endless opportunities for photographs if this sort of thing floats your boat, very much a 'wow factor' building.

Skyscrapers in the City of London.
Booked tickets for 1545-1645hrs to catch sunset, but damp and overcast weather meant we were denied this pleasure. The darker it got the more reflections appeared in the glass windows, making it very difficult to take clear images through them. Security guards will stop you from lifting your camera above the height of the safety glass to overcome the reflections.

30 St Mary Axe (informally known as The Gherkin and previously as the Swiss Re Building) is a commercial skyscraper in London's primary financial district, the City of London. It was completed in December 2003 and opened in April 2004. With 41 storeys, it is 180 metres (591 ft) tall and stands on the former sites of the Baltic Exchange and Chamber of Shipping, which were extensively damaged in 1992 by the explosion of a bomb placed by the Provisional IRA in St Mary Axe, the street from which the tower takes its name. After plans to build the 92-storey Millennium Tower were dropped, 30 St Mary Axe was designed by Norman Foster and Arup Group and it was erected by Skanska, with construction commencing in 2001. The building has become a recognisable feature of London and is one of the city's most widely recognised examples of contemporary architecture.

The Shard, also referred to as the Shard of Glass, Shard London Bridge and formerly London Bridge Tower, is a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London, that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development. Standing 309.7 metres (1,016 ft) high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the fourth-tallest building in Europe and the 96th-tallest building in the world. It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom. Wikipedia

I recently found myself 'Darn the Smoke', you know, Larndon, and had a spare hour to nip down to the financial district and point my camera at the sky. I used to work in London back in the 1970's before most of the skyscrapers had been built, and it was a very different place back then. Amongst the most interesting modern building is this one - Lloyds of London - always good to have another go at finding an interesting angle.

In 1774 the new bridge was mentioned in a popular song in Charles Dibdin's opera The Waterman, referring to the boatmen who used to carry fashionable folks to Vauxhall Gardens and Ranelagh Gardens.
"And did you not hear of the jolly young waterman, Who at Blackfriars Bridge used for to ply? And he feathered his oars with such skill and dexterity, Winning each heart and delighting each eye."

This was taken already 2 years ago, on a photo workshop with Vulture Labs. I love to dabble a bit in the world of fine art B/W photography. The Walkie Talkie is the nickname for the skyscraper on 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London.
Blue hour
A view of the Shard in London with a full moon. The photo is taken from the Millennium Bridge, which turned out to be difficult as the bridge trembles when people walk over. The full moon turned out to be an unexpected extra.
View of HMS Belfast and Tower bridge from London Bridge London, United Kingdom
This was a rather impromptu shot, originally intended to photograph sunrise at the Millennium bridge to avoid the crowd. Unfortunately, half of the bridge was under renovation and there was an unsightly fence running the whole length of the bridge. The clouds were starting to catch some beautiful light and I do not have a composition to work with. Slightly annoyed, I decided to savage the situation by rushing down to London bridge to photograph the Tower bridge in the beautiful morning light.
After a good twenty minutes of brisk walking, I was still too late to capture the beautiful predawn light as the sun had just risen above the horizon. Fortunately, there was sufficient atmosphere and buildings to filter the harsh sunlight, creating a soft back-light for the tower bridge and HMS Belfast. I managed to capture the whole scene in one exposure, making editing relatively straightforward. I was glad I managed to adapt to the situation quickly and come away an image I was happy with. It made getting out of bed at 5 am worthwhile!
