Skyline of Lower Manhattan at night from Brooklyn Bridge Park.

I started my professional career in NYC, lived, and worked there for a while until I moved to the west coast. While I was a resident of NYC, I lived in Brooklyn in quite an unsavory part of the town. It was a bit depressing, but the little reward was the easy access to the coast from where you could get a great albeit distant view of the Manhattan island and Jersey city. On my last year there, as September 11th rolled around, there was news that it was the last time they would do the tribute in light ceremony in memory of the WTC attacks.
There are quite a few monuments in NYC and surrounding boroughs that are created in memory of the attacks. I felt the tribute in light was the most intense and heart touching. I thought it would be a good idea to get the shot of the tribute. I knew that the view from my local park was not enough, so I spend a bit of time researching the best possible spots in Brooklyn that will provide me with a view of lower Manhattan and the lights. Then I had to learn about how to capture the light beam in its full intensity. Thankfully both learning tasks were relatively easy. I was surprised by how few people were there, but watching the lights come on was such an intense and beautiful moment.

Another one from my favorite location in NYC, this time in B&W.
Langzeitbelichtungen vom Stativ sind hier durch die starken Vibrationen der vorbeifahrenden Autos nicht möglich. 1/10 sec aus der freihen Hand ist etwas für die VC des Tamron 15-30mm f/2,8.

3rd tallest building in the New York City.
Midtown Manhattan, or simply Midtown, is a geographic area of Manhattan, New York City. It is home to some of the city's most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and the United Nations Headquarters. It contains world-famous commercial zones such as Rockefeller Center, Broadway, and Times Square.
Midtown Manhattan is the largest central business district in the United States and ranks among the most intensely used pieces of real estate in the world. The majority of New York City's skyscrapers, including its tallest hotels and apartment towers, lie within Midtown. The area hosts commuters and residents working in its offices, hotels, and retail establishments; many tourists, visiting residents, and students populate the district. Some areas, such as Times Square and Fifth Avenue, have large clusters of retail stores. Sixth Avenue in Midtown holds the headquarters of three of the four major U.S. television networks. It is a growing center of finance, second in importance within the United States only to Downtown Manhattan's Financial District. Times Square is the center of Broadway theatre.

I dusted off this one from my old archives, it was taken while I was living in mighty new York city working at Wall St. I think this was the 11 year memory of 9/11 and there was news going around that they were going to stop the tribute in light after this last time.
So I got out to Brooklyn Bridge Park in the afternoon to get a good shot of the NY skyline and hopefully some sunset colors. And I was not disappointed, the sunset sky was excellent even without the customary clouds. As soon as I was at the location I was obsessed with the wooden pillars sticking out from the water and I wanted to get them as foreground interest for this shot.
I had posted earlier a shot using my big stopper but it didn’t have the lights. This one was taken when the tribute in light display came on, but I didn’t had time to use the big stopper so I used a 3 stop ND filter to slow the water down and a 2 stop ND grad for the sky. I have to go through my old archives a little bit more carefully to see if have any more good shots that missed my initial scan.

I'm still working on my New York photos. This time I modified the colors and pushed up the clarity. Hope you like it!
The Brooklyn Bridge, built between 1869 and 1883, connects Manhattan with New York's most populous borough, Brooklyn. The bridge is one of the most famous and magnificent landmarks in New York City.
