Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, is a stunning destination for photography enthusiasts. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking landscapes, Edinburgh offers a plethora of opportunities for capturing stunning photographs. From the iconic Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile to the charming cobbled streets of the Old Town and the picturesque views from Arthur's Seat, there are plenty of photography locations to explore. The city also boasts a vibrant arts scene, with numerous galleries and museums showcasing the works of local and international artists.
Nice night for a bit of evening photography.
Actually it's 4 minutes to Five, as the clock is set 5 minutes fast so train passengers will hopefully not miss their trains down in Waverley Station, behind the hotel.
Following the curve round to the end of the sea wall.
Another shot from my trip to Newhaven last week but processed with a different look and hopefully feel. I decided to make this shot b&w but with a warm tone in the shadows. Again blended a couple of shots to get this and an interesting side effect (at least to me!) was the couple of people of walking along the harbour wall has morphed into a kind of Zallinger's March of Progress evolution of man form. It might be harder to see on this sized image but it's there.
Edimburgo, Escocia
Playing around in Silver Efex with this old shot, amplifying the whites and lowering the structure on the water helped cover up the cloning work used to get rid of the small jetty moored to the left hand side. Also colourized the actual jetty a little in SEP2 too.
A fellow tog on FB had posted a shot from this location and I liked the shot that much I just had to try it out for myself. This is part of the Napier Uni building up at the Craiglockhart Campus in Edinburgh
Dynamic Earth visible in the bottom right, was an awesome sight from up on Arthurs Seat tonight. Unfortunately had to leave just when things were getting really good!
Seem to be making a habit of falling on my backside, slid down the hill in the dark this time tonight!
The clocktower of the Balmoral Hotel, as seen from Calton Hill, dominates the view of the city towards the Castle.
And could well be, came across this after a LR trawl, thought I'd posted it here but a check through the stream says no! Newhaven Harbour basking in the light of sunset, a fairly long time ago!
Thought it was looking promising for a bit of colour in the sky last night but the cloud kind of evaporated just when I was looking for it to hang arounda bit longer! Typically there was a decent bit of cloud cover and colour behind me but not much in the way of a shot... The tower is an old water tower which supplied the Cammo Estate
Took a wander around the Radical Road round Arthurs Seat last night, this is one of the results.
Got this shot from Arthurs Seat last night, looking over Edinburgh as the stom clouds gathered and the sensible people in the cars rushed home in a blur. In the foreground there is Dynamic Earth and the Scottish Parliament with Calton Burial Ground just behind, in the background Calton Hill sits on the right and as you gaze round to the left you take in the Balmoral Hotel and Castle on the extreme left.
Met up with group of local photographers for a wander round The Shore in Leith, turned out to be a cracking sunset although I was kind of in the wrong place to take full advantage of that.
St Giles' Cathedral
Went for a wee wander round the Royal Mile and its Closes today. Bakehouse Close, nice olde worlde feel, apart from the 21st century CCTV camera!
Chancelot Mill is a flour mill, producing organic and non-organic flours, bakery pre-mixes, concentrates and sundries for the baking industry in Scotland and the North. Theres something I like about the shape or layout of the assorted buildings and have thought they'd lend themselves to a dark and moody long exposure.
The old naval defences leading out to Cramond Island, at this end of the causeway it is about 10ft or more above the ground or beach level and during taking this shot I was nervously glancing back to the shore as the tide had begun to just lap over the top of the causeway. Decided to beat a hasty retreat as I hadn't packed my swimming costume!
A view from Calton Hill towards the city centre with the Dugald Stewart Moonument in the foreground
Lulling New Comers to the Festival Month with a showing of some nice sunlight right at the start of the month!
Edinburgh
View On Black Meeting up with a few friends in Edinburgh I had half an hour or so to kill, this area was closed and gated off as the workers had gone home for the day, a quick hop over and the the tripod was soon set up, had some great fun for 20 minutes or so, nobody batted an eyelid.... when I got set up I loved how the statue seems to be pointing and 'directing' the traffic. The fog here today was the worst I'd ever seen in Scotland, from 10am it did not lift once. If you can't beat it, use it to your advantage . . .
Looking out over Holyrood and the city in general as the lights come on and the light trails appear.
From the new to old, the Council HQ at Waverley Court in the foreground leading on to the old GPO building and the Balmoral Hotel
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all who have commented and faved on my stream over the year and especially the contacts who do so regularly. Without your feedback, interaction and inspiration Flickr just wouldn't be the same. Heres to another year of great images to come from everyone!
For those who aren't familiar with Edinburgh this is part of a development called the Quartermile which is on the site of the old Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and also incorporates some of the old buildings along with new builds. The title refers to the fact that if you walked down the path on the right hand side and then turned right you would be on the way to the old Simpsons Maternity Hospital.
Another shot from the Quartermile development in Edinburgh. Also more experimentation with Silver Efex Pro 2.
Went hunting for Bluebells in a local woods with a good friend and came across this fallen tree. Decided to get a bit "creative" with the processing in this one!
Thanks to all Phoide contributors to Edinburgh!
