Lauca National Park

Lauca National Park is a stunning natural wonder located in the northernmost region of Chile. This park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the majestic Andean condor, vicuñas, and flamingos. The park's landscape is characterized by snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and vast plains. For photography enthusiasts, Lauca National Park offers a plethora of opportunities to capture breathtaking shots of the park's natural beauty. Some of the most popular photography locations in the park include the Chungará Lake, the Parinacota Volcano, and the Cotacotani Lagoons.

Freezing Volcano

Taken shortly after sunrise along the shores of Lago Chungara.

I was hoping for a colorful sunrise, but it was blocked by some clouds in the East. I like the result anyway, it's just different than expected. ;-)

One of the lucky moments here. First you travel to a very remote location in unforgiving elevation (almost 5000 meters) to get an otherworldly sight of snow covered volcanoes towering above beautiful landscape. All this complemented by thousands years old Yareta plants. And then also weather cooperates and nature gives you a colorful sunset. A moment hard to forget!

I like the dusk atmosphere of this photo. Taken quite a long time after sunset, a long exposure was needed (4 minutes), but it resulted in nice smooth colors of both the Yareta plants and volcanoes.

Two volcanoes at Bolivia-Chile borders got red by the setting Sun. Quite a view together with the wonderful landscape of Lauca National Park!

Thanks to all Phoide contributors to Lauca National Park!
Most notably Jiri Hajek.
