The Phare du Petit Minou is a lighthouse in the roadstead of Brest, standing in front of the Fort du Petit Minou, in the commune of Plouzané.

Never shot a sunrise here until the other, very pleasant way to spend a few hours
Gale-force winds made photography challenging. Using a tripod was out of the question. What a dramatic light! In enjoyed every minute.

A big thank you to everybody who took the time to view, fave and comment my image. This is highly appreciated.
Are you in for a tip? After finding the right location, the big challenge was catching the right storm, with enough water action to get this frame. Shooting with 1200mm lens with the 40mph winds is an adventure by itself! But we will touch up on that some other time. After I settled down and dialed in all my settings all I had to do is to shoot in a burst mode to capture enough waves for the final blend. TIP: after catching enough waves, all you have to do is pick the best frames and after layering them in Photoshop, select all of them and change the blend mode to “lighten”. That will bring all the water to be visible in the same time having this dramatic effect. It would be nice and much easier to capture all of this in one frame but unfortunately our side of the lake never gets that dramatic. Having snow and some birds in the final frame were just a cherry on a cake :) What do you think?
I'd prefer sunset here, but since the access to this location is limited, sunrise was easier to arrange. Fortunately, it's beautiful here any time of day and as a bonus, I had the lighthouse all for myself for an hour or so. Beautiful morning!
Cabo do Sao Vicente is the far South West corner of Portugal, marked by this lighthouse. This was taken just after Sunset.
Too late for the sunset, but never too late for the Minou lighthouse :). To the right of Camaret we see the light of the lighthouse at the tip of Toulinguet and again to the right that of the lighthouse of the tip of Raz. Photo taken without filter and a little blind :). Happy New Year to you all my Flickr friends!

St Mary's Lighthouse. We started the night shooting from Old Hartley . We were having a lovely evening, the tide was low but then two idiots started throwing stones on the beach. After a while they went but then started throwing stones from the cliff tops onto the beach so we took a deep breath and moved around to this location. Another shot of the Yaquina head light. I am still amazed by the number of different compositions that were possible at this location. I took this shot while we were walking away from the lighthouse using the road as a leading line to the lighthouse.
Hope everyone like it..
A windy and pastel morning belies a turbulent history here on the Outer Banks. Though the rising sun was somewhat occluded behind me as I shot this, it offered a beautiful contrastive sky against this iconic structure.
Though built on a land that shifts with the wind and tide, Bodie Island Lighthouse has withstood hurricanes, nor’easters, floods, lightning, heat, and humidity, but 148 years of such conditions had taken its toll. After much determination, restoration of the lighthouse began in 2010. The last of the project was the installation of the refurbished Fresnel lens early last year... after a re-lighting ceremony, the lighthouse was returned to service April 18, 2013. Seen here in morning light after 152 years, Bodie Island Lighthouse is every bit the historical standout in its new-paint splendor.
I've been going through some older images and this one struck me as quite nice. I need to get back here sometime this spring... if any of you would like to get together for a shoot, let me know.
Reached between the tides via a short causeway, St. Mary's has all the fascination of a miniature, part-time island. The Lighthouse, completed in 1898 on a hazardous coast for shipping, remained operational until 1984 when it was superseded by modern navigational techniques. Since then the Lighthouse and former keepers' cottages have been operated as a visitor centre by North Tyneside Council

St Mary's Lighthouse is on the tiny St Mary's Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. The small rocky tidal island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at high tide.</span>
oh aye, and a lighthouse........
A discovery .. a wait..and the magic moment has arrived ...
I like this particular view of the Garður Lighthouse because beach creates a nice leading lines towards the Lighthouse. And the photographer standing in front of the lighthouse adds a nice scale to the whole composition.
Getting there: The beach is just a few steps from the lighthouse parking.
Its deep red colour stands out so on a sunny day making it an impressive sight. I liked the way the windy conditions blowing the marram grass looked.
Taken shortly after sunset on a beautiful warm evening, almost no wind, really nice place to enjoy!
Dawn at Fanad Head brought some nice cloud, just enough to make a good long exposure.
I was testing the very wide angle Laowa 9mm lens here and yeah, pretty happy with the result... ;-)

Another photo foray with shooting partner Em, a few weeks ago. As we travelled up the motorway towards Burnham-on-Sea, we knew we were in for a visual treat, as all around the sky was restless, heavy and contorted. Barely 15 minutes on the beach and this scene unfolded before us.
It's not hard to see why this grade II listed lighthouse on Burnham beach is so popular to photograph.
The sunlit buildings to the left of the scene are Hinkley Point Power Station.
I've just returned from a 12 day trip around the ringroad of Iceland and wanted to post this one before I started editing those images.
Had to wait a long for this moment. The last photo below was shot nearly an hour earlier and in between there wasn't much sweet light and color, which I had hoped for. But as the sun appeared all changed.
A lot of blending was involved here to get a clean shot with the sunstar. If you are interested in my workflow, I've a detailed tutorial for another photo I've taken in Ireland -> Start2Finish Post Processing Tutorial
cheers
Fanad Head Lighthouse from this direction isn't that much about dramatic cliffs, as from the western direction. However lots of heather make an amazing foreground!
Almost all lighthouses we saw in Iceland were painted in Yellow-Orange color and the Skalasnagi Lighthouse Near Hellissandur in the western tip of Snæfellsnes peninsula is no exception. It is surrounded by a huge lava field and fabulous rock formations.
Garður Lighthouse and its nice red stripes offers very nice photographic opportunities.
Photo Tips: I like the frontal view from the bridge with its symmetry. You can use ultra wide lenses right on the bridge, or back a bit for slightly different compositions with rather normal lenses. However, there are other great possibilities from either side of the Lighthouse.
Getting there: You can park right next to the Lighthouse. This is a great spot to visit right from the airport, as its only about 10 minutes drive. Might be great before a night flight home...
Waiting for the Milky Way.....we watched the sun go down and by the time we got home it was on its way back up. We were joined by some porpoises just after sunset...which was nice!
