Vík is a small village located in the Southern Region of Iceland, known for its stunning black sand beaches, towering cliffs, and dramatic landscapes. This picturesque town is a popular destination for photographers, offering a plethora of breathtaking locations to capture the beauty of Iceland's natural wonders. From the iconic Reynisfjara beach with its basalt columns and towering sea stacks to the majestic Skógafoss waterfall and the otherworldly landscapes of the nearby Sólheimajökull glacier, Vík is a photographer's paradise.
Reynisdrangar depuis la plage de Vik
I wanted to emphasize the wild sea around Reynisdrangar and so decided to stack several frames. Hope that you like the result! ;-)
The village of Vík with a population of 300 is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around 110 miles from Reykjavík. The church is built on a hill, the only place to take refuge if Katla volcano erupts and the glacier melt floods the village below.

It was super windy at the black sand beach in Vik when I shot this image. The sand hitting my face was tough to deal with. It was a very cloudy day with some drizzle. There was no color at the scene and so ended up converting this image to B&W.
On Víkurfjara shore are beautiful basalt columns breaking the ocean waves near Vík village on South-Iceland.

Vik Sea Stacks at Sunset.
This day was had been an absolute washout, sheet rain all day, and thick cloud, not a hope of shooting anything, at sunset it was still horrible but we walked out to the beach at Vik to try and get some dramatic weather shots of the waves around the sea stacks, after 30 mins I'd given up as the winds were whipping up all the sand and I ended curled up in a ball on the beach it was that bad, pebbles bouncing off my knuckles while holding my hood down!! errr balls to this!!
With the weather from hell seemingly never ending we retreated back inland to shoot the church up high, no sooner had we left the beach this scene just broke out of absolutely nothing! had to leg it up the hill and set up really quickly with the long lens to grab this unfolding dramatic sunset, weirdly it was the best one we had all week, you can't turn your back on anything in this Country for 5 minutes, if you do you will miss something. After this had died off the grey drabness came back again before breaking once more into a huge afterburn of purple and red (pics to follow)
Check out the 5 people stood watching it on the beach adding scale

My early morning take on Vik Church, Iceland.
I've cloned a little clutter and a flag pole out of the shot, but I think this makes for a much cleaner, visually appealing image.
ISO 400 due to wind making sharp shots difficult at slow shutter speeds.
These are the Reynisdrangar sea stacks seen from the black beach at Vik in southern Iceland. Don't ask me how I managed to capture the wave like that...
The Vik church (Víkurkirkja) was built between the years of 1932 and 1934 and it is made of concrete. The church can seat roughly 200 church-goers....
One of the Best Memory ever of my trip. Iceland was excellent choice and it won't disappointed me at all. Thank you.
