Vik Sea Stacks at Sunset.
This day was had been an absolute washout, sheet rain all day, and thick cloud, not a hope of shooting anything, at sunset it was still horrible but we walked out to the beach at Vik to try and get some dramatic weather shots of the waves around the sea stacks, after 30 mins I'd given up as the winds were whipping up all the sand and I ended curled up in a ball on the beach it was that bad, pebbles bouncing off my knuckles while holding my hood down!! errr balls to this!!
With the weather from hell seemingly never ending we retreated back inland to shoot the church up high, no sooner had we left the beach this scene just broke out of absolutely nothing! had to leg it up the hill and set up really quickly with the long lens to grab this unfolding dramatic sunset, weirdly it was the best one we had all week, you can't turn your back on anything in this Country for 5 minutes, if you do you will miss something. After this had died off the grey drabness came back again before breaking once more into a huge afterburn of purple and red (pics to follow)
Check out the 5 people stood watching it on the beach adding scale

It is a composition based on three shots, which tries to catch three different stages of the eruption. I think it will be easy for people to differentiate the three stages. The first one, just when the water started to jump up was the brightest, the second one is a little less bright and the third one is clearly darker.
I wanted to emphasize the wild sea around Reynisdrangar and so decided to stack several frames. Hope that you like the result! ;-)

While walking in Fjaðrárgljúfur one feels like living in a fairy tale. An amazing place, really.
This is the first interesting point while walking to Burarfoss waterfall
... near Stokkseyri, Iceland.... land of the midnight sun
Reynisfjall is a 340 m high tuff mountain arising out of a volcanic eruption from under a glacier in the penultimate Ice Age, near the village of Vik. Alternating in an irregular manner are layers of tuff, pillow lava and columnar basalt veins and loops. Reynisdrangar stacks are a collection of 66 m high rock pillars that rise out of the sea and are of the same geological formation as Reynisfjall. On Reynisfjöru beach, very beautiful basalt formations in the south part of the mountain can be seen, and there you will find an exceedingly beautiful cave called Hálsanefshellir.

It was at 6 a.m. but it was amazing. I was lucky that our motorhome was in the camping placed aside the waterfall. Flickr: https://flic.kr/p/2h53G45
After the storm, the calmness.
It was an amazing experience to walk around the waterfall. Being behind the fall was really funny.
Is it reality or inside "Lord of the rings" world?

The Fossardalur valley and it's waterfall Háifoss with a length of 122 meters. Definitely one of the best places I’ve visited during my trip to...

After a short but sharp rise to the top of Skogafoss waterfall, you see an amazing view.

After a really nice trail, we arrived at Bruarfoss fall. With a 10mm composition, we obtained an incredible and dantesque view of the fall in a rainy day.
Gluggafoss is a lesser known Icelandic waterfall, but its situation make it fun to compose with! It's a 2 jumps waterfall, and we can climb over the lower jump, we can see the Eyjafjallajökull form the location.

Shot processed with Darktable from RAW. Improvements like Tone Curve, Highpass filters, Lowpass filters, Channel Mixer and others were managed also with Darktable. Haida Neutral filter of 6 steps was used.
Finally, an Orton effect was applied, keeping the first rocks well focused while an incremental and progressive blur is applied to the most distant.
Views from Sveinstindur are out of this World. I'm so glad I made it here, quite a bit into Icelandic Highlands.
Getting there: After driving F208 and then F235 roads, it's just about negotiating the last ~400 vertical meters from parking to the Sveinstindur summit, which will take you close to an hour. Or, closer to 30 minutes in case you don't get up early enough, which was just my case. ;-)
Landmannalaugar is in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. It is at the edge of Laugahraun lava field, which was formed in an eruption around the year 1477. It is well known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding landscape.
Landmannalaugar is the northern end of the Laugavegur hiking trail and a popular destination for tourist traveling in Iceland.
