A small plateau across the valley from Huayna Potosí offers nice views of the mountain and interesting foreground elements to complement the compositions.
Photo tips: Sunrises nicely illuminate the mountain from the this direction with lower chance of clouds, evenings can have some nice back-light and some clouds can create a very interesting scene.
Wide angle lenses are useful here to include foreground, either some flora, or reflections in a small pond. Normal to mid-telephoto lenses can emphasize details of the mountain.
Getting there: The easiest is about 3km long trek from Refugio Huayna Potosí, which is almost flat, as it follows an artificial water stream. To get to the refugio, you can get a taxi from La Paz (about 1-2 hours).
There are various great foreground elements around this spot, but I really liked the beautiful patches of grass here or there. Together with the first rays of Sun on Huayna Potosí it makes a very memorable morning to me.
