It is a popular destination for photographers, offering a plethora of breathtaking locations to capture. From the historic city of Dubrovnik, with its ancient walls and stunning views of the Adriatic Sea, to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, with its cascading waterfalls and emerald green lakes, Croatia is a photographer's paradise. Sunst view over the bay from the castle terrace.
This is the view one sees on all postcards and posters for sale in town. However, it is not so easy to find the right photography spot. Some of these photos have been taken in places where new buildings have arisen since then, or where shrubbery is now blocking the view. So it took quite a bit of searching, and finally I took the photo from a quite high location, and I am very pleased with the result. I have wanted to get this shot ever since I was there in 1978. This was my first attempt at photographing a waterfall with long exposure. It wasn't easy to find a good spot, as many spots had shrubbery in front and the best spots were from a wooden bridge that trembled every time people walked over. Finally I managed to secure a stable spot just under the bridge, with the tripod standing in the water! Krka is a national park in central Croatia and is becoming more and more known to the public, attracting increasing numbers of visitors. It is a beautiful park with a walkway that meanders between the rapids and the waterfalls eventually leading to this one, the biggest fall of them all.
I had this view on my wish list ever since I visited Dubrovnik in 1978. So now finally I was able to take these photos. This is pretty much the view that you see on all local postcards and books, but it is not easy to find. One problem is that they keep building new houses against the mountainside which block out part of the view, another is shrubbery. All in all I tried out quite a few viewpoints, and more photos will follow.

This is the view of Dubrovnik if you take the cable car to the top of the hill. At Sunset a lot of people gather there, but quickly disperse after the sun has set, leaving (in my opinion) a better view of the city.

Two years ago I was visiting the Balkan countries. The only thing missing from my Croatia album was a photo of the famous Plitvice Lakes, and I do think they belong here. To be honest, I was more impressed with the Krka waterfalls, of which I posted a photo before. However I do think the fall colours in the Plitvice park were stunning.

Omis lies on the Croatian coast, not far from Split, at the mouth of the Cetina River. For the best views you can climb up to Mirabela Castle. There is an entrance fee, but they let you stay there until dark to enjoy the beautiful Sunset view.

It wasn’t easy to find a good viewpoint. The 'standard' view is mostly obstructed by trees. This was taken from somebody’s driveway, hanging as far as possible over a fence.
