Alberta

Alberta is a province located in western Canada, known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes. From the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the rolling prairies and vast boreal forests, Alberta offers a wealth of photographic opportunities for both amateur and professional photographers. Some of the most popular photography locations in Alberta include Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and the Badlands.

It was a very special sunrise at Wedge Pond in Kananaskis Country. The clouds were thick and the colors amazing. Spray Valley Provincial Park, Alberta, (_7100068) OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hard to decide for me whether I like this frontal view from the bridge more, or rather a side-view. It's good to know that Sunwapta Falls look great from many angles... ;-)

Mossleigh trio

The three grain elevators in Mossleigh, Alberta, just Southeast of Calagary are one of the last remaining grain elevator rows. They were built in 1930. The letters P&H stand for Parish & Heimbecker, one of the companies in the grain business. Originally each elevator belonged to a different company. Recently the elevator on the right has received new siding which is why the colour differs from the rest. I have been fascinated by these monuments of the prairies for many years, and was quite disappointed to find that hardly any of these traditional structures remain, as almost all have been replaced by new shiny aluminium ones. There are rumours about plans to reopen the railway and make it into some sort of tourist destination.

Early morning Autumn Sunrise at Two Jack Lake, looking towards Mt. Rundle. After seeing so many lovely images of this mountain, this was really high on my wish list when traveling through the Rockies. Now I am so glad to have been able to capture it with some amazing clouds!

Classic Moraine

by Adelheid Smitt

One of the views I was looking forward to photographing while I was in Canada, was Lake Moraine. So I got to the right spot on an early clear morning. However, the wind was blowing and the morning light never seemed to be just right. But in spite of being disappointed, I think I need to post this one to complete the series I have of Canada.

Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, I took this photo from the stairs at the end of the little path along the shoreline. We went by boat, so I mean the path, that starts at the landing stage near the island. (_7160076) OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Wall of Jericho
From Merlin Meadows
by Jiri Hajek

The meadow and stream next to the Merlin Meadows campground in the Lake Louise area offers great views of the surrounding mountains.

Photo Tips: Sunset can nicely illuminate the Wall of Jericho mountain (to the left) and Mount Richardson (center) and so it is a better time for photography. But particularly a Summer sunrise shouldn't disappoint too.

Getting there: It's a day hike from the trailhead close to the Lake Louise. Campground is right next to the meadow, making it a very convenient location for an early morning and late evening photography.

Kananaskis Autumn Light, Canada (explored)

South of Banff is a wonderful loop road that goes outside of the famous national parks and heads through Kananaskis Country. The scenery is spectacular, the roads are gravel and there were hardly any people when we were there on this lovely Autumn day.

Abandoned Railway Bridge

The East Coulee Railway and traffic bridge, over the Red Deer River near Drumheller, Alberta, was built to transport coak from the nearby coalmines. The last mine closed down in the 1980s, and ever since the bridge has no longer been used, but it makes for a nice bit of photogenic industrial heritage.

After a long and tiring drive during a snowstorm on the Icefield Parkway we arrived at Sunwapta Falls shortly before sunset to find them covered be fresh snow. It was quite a sight!

The boulder in the middle of the Falls looks like it levitates in the water, doesn't it? ;-)
