An oldie from the Spring that has been hiding away on the HDD. This is a 2 shot blend, one for the sky and one for the city/foreground

This photo is very predictable if you are in Edinburgh, I think everyone who has been there knows this view. But even if it's been photographed thousands of times that's no reason not to get your own shot ;-)

We stayed not to far away in a great Guesthouse, the Froach house. If you ever happen to be in Edinburgh and search for a nice place to stay this is it. Beautiful interiors, great breakfast, friendly people!

For this shot I used a Lee 0.6 soft grad. Since the sunset was wasted by the cloud cover I waited for the first lights in the city and captured it during blue hour, one of the best times for Cityscapes I think.

Was up on Calton Hill in Edinburgh with a good friend on Sunday for some shots

View On Black Meeting up with a few friends in Edinburgh I had half an hour or so to kill, this area was closed and gated off as the workers had gone home for the day, a quick hop over and the the tripod was soon set up, had some great fun for 20 minutes or so, nobody batted an eyelid.... when I got set up I loved how the statue seems to be pointing and 'directing' the traffic. The fog here today was the worst I'd ever seen in Scotland, from 10am it did not lift once. If you can't beat it, use it to your advantage . . .

And time for a piccie of The Dome's Xmas decoration!

This mineral water well is on the south bank of the Water of Leith, on an estate once known as St Bernard's. Just below a footpath is St Bernard's Well the well-house was originally built in 1760. The waters of the well were held in high repute for their medicinal qualities, and the nobility and gentry took summer quarters in the valley to drink deep draughts of the water and take the country air. It is in the shape of a circular Greek temple supported by ten tall Doric order columns, with a statue made in 1791 from Coade stone of Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, in the centre.

The clocktower of the Balmoral Hotel, as seen from Calton Hill, dominates the view of the city towards the Castle.

An older shot since haven't managed to get out inbetween the timelapse stuff. Also not going to get online over the next few days as will be wandering around beautiful Barcelona!

Another from last night, concentrating on the castle but also visible is Ramsay Gardens just below and also the New College further down again.

The main feature of the Photo is the war memorial situated in the middle of North Bridge, and is in commemoration to the soldiers of the King's Own Scottish Borderers killed in campaigns between 1878 and 1902.

The “Gothic Tower” (circa 1792) siting behind the circular “Dugald Stewart Monument” (1831) was the location of the original Edinburgh City Observatory. The Observatory is now in the building with the appearance of a “Greek temple” called the Playfair Building, after its designer William Playfair.

The Obelisk in the fore ground, was erected in 1844 by The Friends of Parliamentary Reform, to the men that were martyred in 1793 and 1794 when they were transported to Australia, for having the temerity to ask for the vote for ordinary working men.

To the far right top is the “Nelson Monument” which sits on the highest point of “Calton Hill”, On top of the tower is a time ball, a large ball which was raised and lowered to mark the time. It was installed in 1853 to act as a time signal to the ships in Edinburgh's port of Leith, and to ships at the anchorage in the Firth of Forth.It is raised just before 1pm, and at precisely 1pm, is dropped from atop the mast and signals the firing of “The One O’Clock Gun” from Edinburgh Castle.

The Turreted building on bottom right is the Governor’s House (1817) and is all that remains of “Calton Jail”, once the largest prison in Scotland, until recently it was used as offices for Scottish Government.
