As an interlude between all the New Zealand Photos I want to show another photo from that incredible evening in London back in August. To see such awesome light at such a great location was really something special. I felt very lucky :-)

Processing on this one was my usual Exposure Blending, then some dreamy photo techniques and to finish it some contrast and color work. I explain all of this in my video tutorials, which I've recorded over the last years.

A very popular view over Prague from Hanavsky Pavillion. I had to squeeze in a small spot between a number of photographers who were obviously there as part of a workshop.

Wernerkapelle Bacharach Germany

From Wikipedia: Widely visible is the Wernerkapelle, a Rheinromantik landmark of the town, lying on the way up to Stahleck Castle from the town. It is the expanded Kunibertkapelle, and is still an unfinished Gothic ruin today. Its namesake is Werner of Oberwesel, known in connection with pogroms triggered by his death. According to the Christian blood libel, which was typical of the times, a 16-year-old Werner was murdered on Maundy Thursday 1287 by members of the local Jewish community, who then used his blood for Passover observances. On the grounds of this alleged ritual murder, there arose an anti-Semitic mob who waged a pogrom, wiping out Jewish communities in the Middle and Lower Rhine and Moselle regions. In folk Christianity arose the cult of Werner, which was only stricken from the Bishopric of Trier calendar in 1963.

I think most blue hour photos of Prague feature the Charles Bridge in some way or other. Mine are no exception, this is my third photo of Prague, and perhaps the most famous view with Prague Castle and the St. Vitus Cathedral on the hill. There are still some more views I would like to photograph on a future visit. Last monday I was in photographers heaven for a few minutes. London before sunset with a storm front rolling in from the east presented the best photo opportunity in this year so far and I was in exactly the right place.

I should have been here earlier. After setting up camera and tripod, the Sun was already almost hidden behind hills on the right. That said, I like how the left part is lit by the last direct rays, while the Charles Bridge in shadows complements it on the right.

Will return sometimes though to capture this scene slightly more before sunset in order to have also the bridge illuminated. Maybe the next summer.

In 1540, Spanish Conquistador Hernando de Soto and his men explored Cullasaja Gorge in their quest for gold. The cascades here stretch for about a fifth of a mile across densely forested rugged terrain before making a final drop into the gorge from Cullasaja Falls. It makes you realize that had to have been a particularly mean hike for the conquistadors… they would have had a better time of it had they marched up here at highway NC64 where I shot this from.

There’s a short pulloff on NC64 between Highlands and Franklin, North Carolina, where you get the best view of Cullasaja Falls, which, to me, is the most impressive waterfalls in the state when the water flow is good. It was raining this day, with even a wisp of cloud evident in the image… and you couldn’t ask for better light to make the autumn colors pop. This “spot”, however, is at the apex of a blind curve and very close to the edge of the road… I've watched people stand in the road for “selfies” here, oblivious to how fast a vehicle will suddenly appear at either end of the curve. You need to use your noodle here or you’ll wind up as noodles on the pavement!

For as beautiful as it is, the face of the waterfall has become occluded over years by a scraggly rising foreground. I didn’t include it in this image for that reason. I do understand that it is the least of our problems in this world but being that it draws so many visitors to this neck o’ the woods, it would be great to see the view cleaned up… maybe we should start a petition. Who knows? It just might happen.

If you didn't know, Cullasaja is a Cherokee word meaning honey locust place. The honey locust is a tree. The name derives from the sweet taste of the legume pulp, which was used for food by Native American people. The long pods, which eventually dry and ripen to a leathery skin that sticks to the pulp within. The pulp, which is bright green in unripe pods, is strongly sweet, crisp and succulent in ripe pods. Dark brown tannin-rich beans are found in slots within the pulp. It can also be fermented to make alcoholic beverages… the Cherokee were obviously an advanced civilization!

Some time ago I posted an early morning shot of the Charles Bridge in Prague. In the evening it is better to take this from a distance because the throngs of people on the bridge will make it impossible to shoot on the bridge. Bacharach Germany Blue Hour

Here's the typical photo of the Vatican one has to take when visiting Rome :-) I didn't get a colorful sunset that evening, but the blue hour as usual didn't dissapoint and once all the city lights went on it looked quite magical.

I was really lucky to get anything here today as it was pouring down and I got a royal soaking before I got here, I decided to visit a spot undercover right next to here to try and wait it out, with a few mins amazingly it did stop and allowed to to not only get a nice long exposure with the low light but also manage to get all the storm clouds, with 30 minutes it had completely cleared and was sunny for the rest of the day, well worth a soaking, to think I almost gave up for the day.... Also pleased with the colour version, but I'm really feeling the black and white vibe at the moment, especially for stuff like this, just feels a lot more emotive to me when you remove the distraction of colour.

Celý den všude pršelo, ale předpovědi slibovaly na západ ČR k večeru vyjasnění, tak jsme vyrazili na pár cílů, s plánem na večerní Loket. Vyšlo to dokonale, slunce začalo prosvěcovat mraky pár minut před západem a pak už se jen postupně měnilo světlo.

Tahle vyhlídka na Loket se mi moc líbí, i když teda nezavrhuju ani ostatní, každá má něco do sebe. Každopádně podzimní barvy stromů tomu sluší!
