The Alhambra Night-- Granada. Spain
Alhambra from Mirador de San Nicolás
by Yi Jiang

The Alhambra (Arabic: الْحَمْرَاء‎, Al-Ħamrā, literally "the red one"), the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra (الْقَلْعَةُ ٱلْحَمْرَاءُ, Al-Qal'at al-Ħamrā, "the red fortress"), is a palace and fortress complex of the Moorish rulers of Granada in southern Spain (known as Al-Andalus when the fortress was constructed during the mid 14th century), occupying a hilly terrace on the southeastern border of the city of Granada.

Another shot of the Yaquina head light. I am still amazed by the number of different compositions that were possible at this location. I took this shot while we were walking away from the lighthouse using the road as a leading line to the lighthouse.

Hope everyone like it..

Alhambra from Mirador de San Nicolás

La Alhambra se concibió como una ciudad palatina para albergar toda la corte del monarca. Es uno de los máximos exponentes del arte nazarí y fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1984.

While we were at the fantastic viewpoint in Treasure Island waiting for the blue hour doe the San Francisco skyline shoot, I noticed that the sunset was creating some interesting colors in the sky. The problem was the retreating fog was making everything soft and the fact that the winds were picking up didn’t help the matter one bit. Thankfully, I had packed my Lee Big Stopper and it seemed like a great place to try it. I have noticed from my previous experiences with the big stopper that due to the incredible amount of motion blur it creates in moving objects like water or clouds, it makes the stationary objects look extra sharp. Now I know it’s an optical illusion and not a real increase in sharpness but since perception is the reality I decided to try it out. The wind had picked up and was battering my tripod and I had to hold it down from getting tipped over. After about 4-5 tries, this shot came out tack sharp.

Also, today's quote comes courtesy of Ms. Annie Besant a total badass who was one of the key inspirations behind India’s independence movement and one of the early presidents of Indian National Congress.

Watching Sunset
Charles Bridge from Mánes Bridge
by Jiri Hajek

I should have been here earlier. After setting up camera and tripod, the Sun was already almost hidden behind hills on the right. That said, I like how the left part is lit by the last direct rays, while the Charles Bridge in shadows complements it on the right.

Will return sometimes though to capture this scene slightly more before sunset in order to have also the bridge illuminated. Maybe the next summer.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Newport, Oregon
Yaquina Head Lighthouse
by Bonnie Moreland

This is Yaquina (ya -QUEEN- ah) Head Lighthouse in Newport, not to be confused with Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.

The 93 foot tower is located on a narrow point of land jutting due west, nearly 1 mile into the Pacific Ocean north of Newport, at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

Winds and rain have buffeted this lighthouse since its beginning in 1872. It took approximately one year, and over 370,000 bricks to construct Oregon’s tallest lighthouse.

The light has been active since Head Keeper Fayette Crosby walked up the 114 steps, to light the wicks on the evening of August 20, 1873. At that time the oil burning fixed white light was displayed from sunset to sunrise. Today, the fully automated first order Fresnel lens runs on commercial power and flashes its unique pattern of 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off, 2 seconds on, 14 seconds off, 24 hours a day. The oil burning wicks have been replaced with a 1000 watt globe.

The nightly vigil of watching the light is gone as are the resident keepers and their quarters, but the staff of the Bureau of Land Management, who are now responsible for the tower, would love to guide you through the lighthouse with tales of yesteryear.

panoramica de la alhambra.
Alhambra from Mirador de San Nicolás
by angel

To say this was a challenging shot would be to take the efforts behind the creation of this image too lightly. I had this shot in mind since my Google street view stalking showed me this vista. The problem with setting up a shot in San Francisco is the ever-present threat of fog. Especially when shooting an expansive cityscape like this one. Our only choice was to get the shot before summer since some unforeseen family functions forced our hand, there was an impromptu trip to India and thankfully we managed to plan a trip to the Bay Area before April.

From my experience the fog is tricky in spring, so we decided to hope for the best and just roll with it. On the day of the shoot, we did experience some fog but the wind was so strong, I was hoping that it will blow away the coastal fog once the sun sets. Eventually, the wind did just that but what happened was the intensity of the wind just kept on rising and I had to hold down my dainty travel tripod to prevent it from tipping over. Anyways after about 4 or 5 trials, I finally managed to get the panorama stitch that I was satisfied with. This shot was made with about 8 images at 135mm in portrait mode. Hope Y'all like it.

Wow I have been blown away by the responses I have been getting for my past couple of posts, when I started posting pics of our Oregon trip I was hoping that maybe one of them might make explore but this is just unbelievable. I sincerely thank everyone for all the encouragement.

So in keeping with the current scheme, here is a shot of the Yaquina head lighthouse located just minutes away from Newport, OR. I had originally planned to shoot this location for sunset but I had under estimated the distance so we reached Newport quite late. So we decided to make it her for sunrise but again we overslept and by the time we reached the sun had already risen.

Opened in 1873 Yaquina head light is a beautiful lighthouse located in an even more pretty location. Since we reached quite early we had the place all to ourselves and I was able to create this moody image of the lighthouse with the golden field in front of it. Thanks again for visiting my photostream, hope you like this one..

My wife and I lived in the Bay Area for about 6 months immediately after our marriage before finally settling in SoCal. During the six months stay we never ventured or explored any of San Francisco’s beautiful sights. We did Trips to wine country, San Diego, and Yosemite but no trips were made to explore the city where we lived.

We always thought we will be living in the bay area so there was no real urgency in the plans, but we got jobs in LA. So last Thursday was my birthday and we decided to head to San Francisco and give the new D850 some workout. This view is of the San Francisco skyline as seen from the Treasure Island view point. The wind was pummeling us during the shoot and I had to hold down my gitzo traveler lightweight tripod to get a steady shot.

Uluru / Ayer's rock is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uluru and Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, are the two major features of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park (Wikipedia).

An Awful Dream Occurred Right Here
San Francisco from Treasure Island
by Milton Sun

This photo was taken from Treasure Island, San Francisco in June last year, rechecked it recently, I felt it is not so satisfy just because if the Bay Bridge get more close to the skyline, the result will be better. So I came back again and walked up toward south to Yerba Buena Island, expected combine both subjects during the blur hour at dusk on 27th September.

After set up my tripod, suddenly I was pushed and fallen down on the sidewalk, then a robber took all the camera gear jumped into a waiting van behind me, and drove away quickly.

A beautiful city we live in, all the different kind artists try to express her glory from each way. Unfortunately, some robbers have destroyed the great dreams with their dirty hands and minds.
