Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Molenwaard, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder in the Alblasserwaard at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Kaleidoscope
Rotterdam - Cube Houses
by Alec Lux

The Cube Houses, was one of the places I did't wan't to miss in Rotterdam. This really is some twisted architecture. When you find the right spot, it's just like a kaleidoscope. Saw several times this particular shot on the net, always been amazed by its geometry. Sitting on my butt, taking the time for framing, didn't want to make mistakes for this one.

Every time I go to the zeeland bridge, I always have a complete different atmosphere. The sun was just under, water was pretty calm. What a splendid reflection.

Ysselsteyn War Cemetery WW2
Ysselsteyn War Cemetery WW2
by Henk Verheyen

Ysselsteyn German war cemetery at Timmermansweg 75, covers about 28 hectare or 70 acres and contains the graves of 31,598 German war dead, most of whom who died in the Netherlands during World War II. The war dead include Germans, Dutch, Poles and Russians who fought on the side of the German military. About 3,000 are war dead from the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes and Hürtgenwald that were initially interred next to the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten. In a circle near the entrance are 85 German soldiers who fell in World War I and whose bodies ended up in the Netherlands by floating down rivers, mainly the Meuse. (The Netherlands were neutral in World War I.) Almost all of the burials are in individual graves marked by a gray concrete cross. A tall cross stands in the central memorial plaza. The roads extending right and left from the plaza contain a carillon, common graves, and a memorial stone honoring the Dutch captain Johann Ludwig Timmermans, who served as manager of the cemetery from 1948 to 1976 on behalf of the Dutch government, and whose ashes were scattered at the cemetery at his request after his death. Ysselsteyn is the largest German war cemetery in the world.[2]

Ysselsteyn German war cemetery is now the only German war cemetery in the Netherlands as after World War II all German fatalities were concentrated there. Since 1976 it is administered by the German War Graves Commission, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge.

Next to the cemetery is Youth Meeting Centre Ysselsteyn, a youth camp and education center.

Catharina Hoeve - Zaanse Schans (NL)
Arch Bridge in Zaanse Schans
by Henk Verheyen

The Catharina Hoeve is an authentic 17th-century cheese farm, situated at the Zaanse Schans, close to Amsterdam. The Zaanse Schans is a popular tourist attraction for good reason: its historical wooden houses, warehouses and fully-operating windmills offer a true taste of 'Old Holland'.

Astrophotography Tryout Number 1
Zeelandbrug
by Alec Lux

Remember, a while ago, I posted a composed astrophotography shot. So here I am with my real first tryout. I went to the Zeeland bridge with a friend, we were prepared for it. This location isn’t the best for that, too much light pollution, but it is ok for a start. Luckily I had my Haida Clear Night Filter, which made it possible to filter a part of the light pollution. After a few calculations, I normally should have taken the shots at 30s, but I saw there was too much ambient light. I decided to try it with 15s. I still have many stars. I composed 150 shots to obtain the star trails, I’m happy with the result. Also, I never make shots without thinking about my framing, which makes a medium shot a little bit better. And to finish this result, we took an extra shot with some red light on the bridge. Woohoow. All negative comments are welcome, I still have a lot to learn in this kind of photography. It was a great experience, the magic happens when you step out of your comfort zone.

I have seen several shots of this iconic location under the Zeeland bridge (Netherlands). I always wanted to have my version of it. If we stand perfectly in the middle and on the right level, we can see through the arches of the bridge. Not an easy job for the perfect composition.

Nelson Mandela Bridge

Nelson Mandela Bridge, Zoetermeer, The Netherlands. Architect: Johan Bak (1992) I used to be here many times because of work, and really hated the place: cold, ugly and unattractive, waiting for a train that was always late. Not having been there for years, in gorgeous weather, I found a different atmosphere.

Blue and yellow are the colours of the city of Zoetermeer. We used to call it Sweet Lake City.

Zeeland Bridge, Netherlands (explored)
Zeeland Bridge
by Adelheid Smitt

The Zeeland Bridge is a popular photo spot. It is a 5km bridge connecting two of the islands of the province of Zeeland. I had an idea of taking a b/w photo, but was actually hoping for some fog. However, the day was incredibly clear. I still went for the b/w but decided to add an element of colour, hence the yellow buoy. Between the pylons of the bridge you can clearly see the church tower of Zierikzee at 8,5 kms distance.

Stadsbrug/City bridge: "De Oversteek", Nijmegen
by Adelheid Smitt

This beautiful bridge that crosses the Waal river, opened to traffic in November 2013. The design was chosen so that it was similar to the existing bridge of 1936, which had become too small to handle all the traffic, and lies East of the current bridge. Near the bridge is a commemoration site for the US Army 504th Infantry Regiment of the 82d Airborne Brigade. During the crossing in 1944, 48 men lost their lives. This is commemorated by 48 pairs of lamp posts on the bridge. Every evening these lights go on pair by pair symbolising the slow crossing of the river during the liberation.(source Wikipedia)
